ABSTRACT

v
This research study entitled Comparative Study on Listening

Comprehension Ability of Secondary Level Students is an attempt to find

out listening comprehension ability of grade nine students in Bhaktapur district

and to suggest some pedagogical implications. In order to collect the data,

listening comprehension test was administered. Sixty students studying in

different four private secondary schools of Bhaktapur district were sampled for

the listening test. The main tool for data collection was test items based on seen

text. The scores obtained by the students were tabulated on the basis of the

variable specified. Their level of comprehension ability was determined by

using simple statistical tools: average and percentage. The major findings of the

study are: The overall performance of male, female, indigenous students and

non-indigenous students in L2 test has been revealed with their respective

marks and average marks. The performance of female is more than male by

0.25 i.e. 2.5% and the performance of non-indigenous students better than

indigenous students by 0.75 i.e. 7.5%. The listening comprehension ability of

female is better than male in average. The male has achieved 8.9 and female

has obtained 9.15 in average. It means female has obtained more marks than

male in average by 0.25 i.e. 2.5%. is 9.567.
