Scene 1
Narrator: there are moments in our life where everything was getting smoothly and wished
time to stop. This was Rachel’s wish one autumn evening.

Rachel: (on the phone)Yeah Jessica! I’m excited for the party on friday! (Ring) Wait, dad just
texted “Come down now we need to talk now”... ok,bye Jess..
John: Rachel! Finally, you’re here. I have news. Next week I am reassigned to do missionary
work in Congo. We’re leaving in two days so you better pack up.
Rachel: What?! 2 days?! But I can’t! And out of all places!
Luke: Where? What’s wrong Congo?
Rachel: Go ask google how horrible it is.
Luke: (typing)Livelihood of Congo. (Reading) The people in Congo have suffered enormous
loss of life and livelihoods due to almost two decades of war and insecurity. What?! Dad?
We have everything we need here in the city…
John: Now, I know how hard it is, but it's missionary so we’re going whether we like it or
not.
(Plane sound)

Scene 2
Narrator: The Jones have finally arrived in Africa welcomed by a Fellow missionary.

(African music)
Jane : John, Adah, welcome to Congo.
Adah: Jane! It's been a long time,How is life here?
Jane: well, to be honest, it's not easy. Did you bring oil lamps and insect repellants? There’s
no electricity here in the village so you’re going to need those for tonight. Oh yeah, you need
to remember tomorrow at 6 am is Mr. Dion’s schedule to trade food from the city.
Adah: let me set the alarm, oh no! My phone is dead!
Jane: don't miss it! happens only once in 4 months and food here is very scarce

Scene 3
Narrator: later that evening Rachel was struggling to get signal

Rachels: Come on! Pick up! I need to read my messages!


Celine: hi, why are you out here?
Rachel: signal, you know text, facebook
Celine: oh, I hear rich talk about that kinshasa but no network here.
Rachel: How am I supposed to like this place? I can't even understand anybody. translating
would be so easy if my phone’s working!
Celine: I’ll teach you lingala, and ways of our people.
Rachel: really?
Celine: yes. But now come, Chief Tata Ndu prepared a party for your family,

Scene 4
Narrator: meanwhile at the party… Luke was bored with his games
(african music)

Luke(talking to himself): Ugh, I miss playing Fortnite! Why did we have to go here?
Adah: Luke, are you ok?
Luke: yeah mum, I’m Good just missing some things in the city.
Adah: cheer up, Look at the dancers, they're amazing, right? And their colorful dress. If my
phone was useful I would have taken photos the moment I saw them.
Luke: well, they’ll just be saved in your memory then.
Adah: I'm getting old and forgetful you know..

Scene 5
Narrator: Months have passed and they are starting to get used to life in Congo. They never
heard from friends back in the city again . Actually,even news of the outside world . But they
had peace, their family was more close. But terrible things will always find its way.

Celine: Mr and Mrs. Jones! Your son in trouble!


Adah: Luke? Where is he?
John: What happened to him?
Celine: yes,Luke, Bit Cobra, most fierce snakes, hurry quick!
Luke: Mom, dad!
Rachel: Luke! Oh my gosh! You look so pale!
Adah: God almighty, please save my son! Don’t worry we’ll call the doctors as soon as
possible.
John: Darn it! The nearest hospital is 5 kilometers away! a chopper can fly us there quickly!
I've got a radiotelephone but no one is responding!
Rachel: I heard that the tribe uses milk to cure the poison, I’ll get some!
Adah: Oh my, stay in there Luke , don’t worry, you’ll be safe.
Luke: Mom, I don't want to die yet.

Narrator :If only they could stop death, we could’ve saved him, if only their phones was
