Song of the Wind (pg 121)

Goals/Objectives

 Students will learn piece and play to best of their ability.


 Students will be more comfortable switching fingerings between strings.

Procedures

 Hand stretch
 Play through 1 octave D major scale
 Play first half of scale and back down
 Finger stretch with measure 3 fingerings
 Chunk piece by sections from end to beginning, starting with last 4 measures.
 After that section is played with minimal or no errors, move on to 7-10.
 Play chunks together then move on to 3-6
 Play measures 1 and 2
 Perform entire piece with expressions and smooth motion. (Wind=Smooth, Legato Strokes)

Assessment

 Piece played with minimal errors.


 Demonstrating good bow holds, posture, and technique.
 Perform piece with expressions and paying attention to bow direction markings and dynamics.

National Standards/Virginia Standards Addressed

 Anchor Standard #5: Develop and refine artistic techniques for work and presentation.

Adaptations/Modifications

The best modification for this lesson plan may to change the order of the lesson and focus on the music
from beginning to end to prevent confusion, however I chose this order so that the easiest parts (the
scalar motion that this class has been practicing for a few days) is out of the way and more time can be
spent with this hardest part at the end so that it’s the freshest in the student’s minds when performing
the piece.
