Activity 1: Test Yourself!

Name: Jheaz Lhey Riemer Date: 11-05-20

Part 1: Answer the following question briefly and comprehensively.

1. Why is interphase called the resting stage of the cell cycle?

- It is called the resting stage because this stage is the longest stage and it is where
the cell acquire nutrients
2. Why are cell cycle checkpoints important?
- It is important because it detects abnormalities and to assure that the cell is free from
malfunctions
3. What happens to a cell that fails to meet the requirements of a checkpoint and is
not able to make the necessary improvements or repairs?
- If the cell failed to meet the necessary requirements it will go back to G0 phase to
rest and acquire the requirements needed. Although, some cells never recover and
stays in the G0 phase
4. Why is mitosis called duplication division?
- Because the mitosis is the process where the DNA is copied to be equally distributed
in the two daughter cells
5. How is meiosis II similar to mitosis?
- They both undergo the PMAT process
- During metaphase, the sister chromatids are aligned
6. Why is meiosis called the reduction division?
- Because the number of chromosomes in the daughter cells are half that of the parent
cell.
7. How is animal cell division different from plant cell division?
- Animal cell I form the cleavage furrow meanwhile plant cell forms the cell plate

Part 2: Draw your own representation of Plant and Animal Mitosis and Meiosis. Show and
label the following structures:

• Cell membrane
• Cytoplasm
• Spindle fibers
• Asters
• Centrosomes
• Centrioles
• Spindle apparatus
• Chromosome
• Arm (of the chromosome)
• Centromere (of the chromosome)
• Kinetochore (of the chromosome)
• Chromatid
• Cleavage furrow and/or cell plate
