Objective: 
To teach the class about what an IEP is, and how to be used properly in the child's 
everyday school life. The class will be taught through lecture, vidoes, and be given 
handouts to further paint the picture for them; along with having an open discussion 
to answer any underlying questions. 
 
Materials/Equipment:  
Materials needed for this lesson include: keynote, IEP handout (provided to class) and 
their undivided attention. Videos: “Ironic” IEP Song, and IEP Binder: How to assemble 
and organize. 
 
Activity:  
Have the class participated in filling out their own mood tracker instead of a goal 
tracker, to symbolize what an IEP goal tracker is to a student.   
 
Instruction: 
● Start out with my name and reasoning for picking this topic. 
● State objective: What is an IEP ? What qualifies for an IEP? How does an IEP work 
? Whos involved in the making of an IEP ? How many students have learning 
disabilities, therefore requiring an IEP ?

Closure: 
To have the class be able to fully understand how an IEP works, how its made to 
tailor each students individual needs, and how it is presented in the students everyday 
classes. Talk about how beneficial an IEP or a 504 plan is for a student.
