CONCEPT OF MUSIC
Music is an art form, and a cultural activity, whose medium is
sound. General definitions of music include common elements
such as pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm

(and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation),


dynamics (loudness and softness), and the sonic qualities of
timbre and texture (which are sometimes termed the "color" of
a musical sound).
THE BEGINNING OF MUSIC

melodies were sounds from nature.
• Early human tried to imitate these
sounds, create new sounds.

Medieval Music (450-1450)


§ Mainly about God and worship.
§ Mostly made up of one melody
line with no background music.

Renaissance Music (1450-1600)


§ A time of great change in music. The famous Mona Lisa

Baroque Music (1600-1750)


§ Baroque (ba-roke) means ''strange'' or
'excessive''.
§ More difficult and complex than in the
renaissance period.
§ Composers used various tones to deliver
stores or certain emotions.

§ Strict rules were applied to music composition
and the sound were more balanced and
restrained.

§ Melody became a dominant feature to
express nationalism.
§ Virtuosos became very popular.
§ Considered to be mostly about rebellion.
§ Many new music styles were invented.
§ Technology has played a very important
part in the evolution of modern music.

generations.
§ By building on the popular style
of the day.
§ Rebel against the popular style
and creates something totally
new and different.
