Converting an Applied Research to a Basic Research

Basic research, also called pure research or fundamental research, is a type of scientific research with

the aim of improving scientific theories for better understanding and prediction of natural or other
phenomena. Though often driven simply by curiosity, basic research often fuels the technological
innovations of applied science. Basic research advances fundamental knowledge about the world.

Applied research is a type of research design that seeks to solve a specific problem or provide
innovative solutions to issues affecting an individual, group or society. It is often referred to as a
scientific method of inquiry or contractual research because it involves the practical application of
scientific methods to everyday problems. When conducting applied research, the researcher takes extra
care to identify a problem, develop a research hypothesis and goes ahead to test these hypotheses via
an experiment.

Conversion:

1: As applied research is used to test inferences of basic research it can be said that applied research
transforms into basic research if the inference is true lot of times.

2: Applied research can be done over a domain and that can be used as basic research.

3: If the end result and conclusion of applied research does not change with the introduction of any new
variable then we can consider it as Basic research.

4: If the results are same and is performed many numbers of times in changing conditions.

Case Example

Applied research would be a study conducted by an organization to understand the collaboration of its
general workforce with the specially abled workforce, the results from it would be applicable for that
organization but when those results would be seen in general on the larger scale of productivity of its
Human Resources, may show how it can attract talent of specially abled people, who posses better work
commitment and task dedication. These generalized results generated by observing similar benefits in
various organizations over a period of time can then be categorized under Basic Research.
