Discovery Learning

Standard 3.j: The teacher knows how to help learners work productively and cooperatively
with each other to achieve learning goals.
K-PS2-1 Plan and conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or
different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object

Discovery learning is a constructive approach

to learning. In a discovery lesson, the
students work towards discovering new
principles by collaborating. The teacher
creates the activity that will push the students
toward the new principle and help answer
questions. Discovery learning is productive
because it makes a way of learning that
students will remember. The students will use
discovery learning in the case of discovering
forces. The teacher will give the students
materials to create an object that will cause
something to move. The students will work
together to create something that will cause
an object to move in some way. In this
experiment, the students will discover that
depending on the force they place on an
object, it can move faster or slower. After the
students do the activity, the teacher will use
what they just discovered as examples as she
teaches the students about the forces; push Discovery learning lessons can be used
and pull. in every subject. I believe discovery
learning is a great way to keep
students of all ages engaged and
curious about learning. When students
are involved in a task, they are more
likely to be productive because they
are doing what they are supposed to be
doing. Taking part in a discovery
learning activity myself has taught me
how useful this way of teaching is.
