The document discusses using multiple assessment methods to engage students in their own growth and learning. It describes an authentic assessment activity where second grade students work with their families to write "How-to" papers on cooking or baking a cultural dish and then bring the dishes to class to celebrate diversity. The assessment was designed to address writing standards while allowing students to learn more about themselves and their cultures.

My classmate and I created an Authentic
Assessment on making cookies/ desserts while also addressing the 2nd-grade standard based on writing “How-to” papers. The students would be required to work with their families on writing a How-to paper on cooking or baking a dish from their cultural background. We decided that it would be a great idea to have the students bring in the dishes they wrote about to celebrate the classroom's cultural diversity. We created the assessment to be different and give the students the opportunity to learn more about themselves.
I hope to use this assessment or something
similar with my students in the future. I enjoyed creating the lesson and infographic to help the students create their own “How-to” paper.
