2(n) The teacher makes learners feel
valued and helps them learn to value each
other
In my field placement for Early Childhood Studies, I was in a Special
Education Preschool. The majority of my students have been
diagnosed with Autism or with an Early Childhood Developmental
Delay.
One of our class goals is taking turns. Some of My
students struggled with waiting. My students love a
toy that has multiple parts that spin. Each student
took a turn making one spin. I was in charge of the
toy and called on students to come up. When calling
on students, I would say “(name)’s turn” in an
excited tone, then all the students would say “3, 2, 1
GO!“ as they would spin the toy. And this was a
repeated process. Taking turns teaches the children
the life skill of valuing others.

This might have been a small

task for some, but it had
taught me to observe my
students during group play.
The opportunity showed me
how they handled this type
of situations.
