Practice Problems (Ideal Gas)

1. A certain gas at 101.325 kPa and 16 0C whose

volume is 2.83 m3 is compressed into a storage vessel
of 0.31 m3 capacity. The storage vessel initially
contained the same kind of gas at a pressure of 137.8
kPa and temperature of 24 0C. After admission of gas
into the vessel, the pressure increased to 1,171.8 kPa.
What should be the final temperature (in 0K) of the
gas in the vessel?

2. A rigid tank contains 20 lbm of air at 20 psia and 70

0
F. More air is added to the tank until the pressure
and temperature rise to 35 psia and 90 0F,
respectively. Determine the amount of air added to
the tank. (Rair = 53.34 ft-lbf / lbm-0R)
