Personal Statement

The most difficult part of my life was when my Grandfather passed away. I was heartbroken and
felt overpowered with grief. It was the first time I had experienced death, and the feeling was
made only worse when my Uncle died twenty days later. The next two months, I felt like I
couldn’t do anything, weights of stress and grief piled up, until one simple school assignment. I
was in eighth grade, and we had an assignment where we had to draw. I found that I enjoyed
drawing, and decided to draw more. My art at the time wasn’t good, but looking back at it, I
think art helped me as a coping mechanism.

I continued to draw, and as I put pencil to paper I was happy. My pencil drawings with scribbles
of colored pencils were fun to me and it felt like I finally found my place. I quickly got better
and made character designs that are very important to me. My parents encouraged my passion for
art, enjoying my stories and drawings. The teacher that assigned the assignment to get me
started enjoyed seeing me grow.

That was my first experience with art, and it helped me grow as a person. I accepted the death of
my family with it, I never stopped with my artistic passion and from that point forward I had an
idea of my life purpose, and my future set. I am going to share my artistic visions with others,
with the hope that they can brighten the day of the viewer.

As I stated earlier, I started building a world in that moment, at first it was a small project, but it
quickly erupted into something greater. The characters are more diverse and stylized, and my art
only has continued to get better as I found my place and style in the digital art medium. I am
more committed to art and writing than anything else I do, and enjoy ever part of it.

More recently I took a liking to poetry, writing for my creative writing class, and everyone I read
or show my poems love them. It fills me with joy hearing their opinions on them, and it inspires
me to do better. I better myself with every artistic experience, poetry, writing, art, I’m always
getting better. When I feel upset about anything, art helps me, just draw to release stress.
Everything I draw makes me better at drawing, and my digital style has evolved into a painting
style, with rugged and thick outlines and dapples of color combinations.

I’ve been drawing fight scenes lately, and that helps me with scenery. For backgrounds I do a
painting style that uses limited outlines and emphasis on colors. It all comes together to make a
unique style of art that is very original looking.

Over my experiences as an artist, I have improved and learned from my mistakes, and it comes
together to make something great. Furthermore I will continue to better myself with all mediums
of art, be it writing or drawing. I will always strive to continue to grow, and I am committed to
become the best I can be.
