) TOPIC: Research the development of the brain through music and link it to a students’

success in a musical field and/or other academic areas. What are the psychological factors

that come into play with the development of good aural skills, good sense of tone,

(possibly synthesia factors, gifted students) etc?

a. I would like to look into connections between the developing brain and if

different exposures to music affects this development.

b. CONNECTIONS: I’d like to see how the different styles (and exposures) of

general music teaching might affect how a student develops their musical abilities

and skill. For example, does teaching ukulele instead of recorder have a different

effect in a student's musical processing and learning? What style of beginning

instruction has the greatest impact on a student's musical success?

a memory task," Modern Psychological Studies, Vol. 17 (No. 2, Article

ii. This study reviews the effects that different genres of music have on the

brains’ memory.

b. Art and Science: how music training shapes the brain

ii. This article discusses in depth ideas concerned with the physical

developments of the brain in relation to musical exposures. It talks about

the differences found based upon those that are musicians and those that

aren’t. There is more information on the response to different noises and

sounds through different stages of musical exposure.

ii. I went and dove into deeper waters with this article because I couldn’t find

specific differences in brain developments specific to different instruments

(aka different exposures to music).

Pitch Accuracy of Young Children

ii. This falls under my interest in different teaching styles and its effects on a

students skill in music (pitch accuracy).
