Field Experience

Student Teacher: Hala Majzoub Student ID: 260870614

Program: k/elem Field Experience: 3
Date: December 15,2020

Instructions: To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, Student Teachers

will write an Action Plan at the end of their First, Second and Third Field Experience with input
from their Co-operating Teacher and/or Field Supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each
Field
Experience’s evaluation, links each Field Experience to the next, establishes goals for
improvement and forms an agenda for discussion between the Student Teacher, Co-operating
Teacher and Field Supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent Field Experience. For Field
Experience 1 only (excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be
completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown ‘Thorough’ to ‘Advanced’ development in the following Professional

Competencies developed during this Field Experience:

For competency 1, I had the opportunity to grow and learn as a teacher as it was my duty to
manage a classroom in a safe and welcoming environment for all students. I was able to create
lessons that would impact students’ social and emotional development by activating their prior
knowledge and by reinforcing it until the end of my field experience (artifact 3,5). I consider that
I was able to adapt to the school’s environment and build good relationships with staff members.
For PC3, with the support of my C.T., I had the role of making sure that students followed
classroom rules and regulations by allowing them to repeat every morning their listening
position, the visuals like the three zones, and the thermometer (Artifacts 1 and 2). As I am now
familiar with the kindergarten competencies, I was able to create lessons that impacted my
students' learning and focus on the competencies that are needed when they do their activity. l
For PC5, I consider that I was able to acknowledge some changes that I had to do in my teacher
to assure that it fit my students’ level of understanding and age appropriation. All lessons were
filled with visuals for my students to have a better understanding of what they are learning. For
PC8, I consider that I did integrate technology when delivering my lessons, and with the support
of my C.T., I used media sources, like safe YouTube, to safely share videos with my students.
For PC9, I collaborated with the K5 team to share and discuss lessons - this allowed me to view
various approaches to delivering lessons and managing classrooms. For PC10, I planned and was
ready every Friday for the following week to share and discuss it with my C.T.; I had to be
prepared with what to do for the whole week to get it confirmed and reviewed by my C.T. For
PC12, I respected students’ confidentiality as this is a fundamental part of being a teacher.

I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed

during this Field Experience:
For PC2, I consider that teachers must be able to communicate clearly in class in speaking and in
writing. As I was in a French immersion classroom, I had the role to make sure that I spoke
French all along with my field experience with my students. As this was one of my main
challenges at the beginning of my field experience, I consider that I got better along the way, but
it is still something that I want to work on in the future. I tend to make a few spelling mistakes
when writing in French and can forget words when trying to translate. This experience made me
realize how crucial it is to always double-check for any errors that might occur and be prepared
beforehand with any spelling or words that might be mentioned when teaching a lesson. For
PC6, I consider that I need to be more ready when teaching my lessons and anticipate all types of
behaviors that can occur with all of my students. I also need to be prepared to make any changes
when teaching since it happens for things to go wrong. Having classroom management
techniques and a toolbox ready are something that I was able to develop during with my field
experience; however, I feel like this is something that I would need to work on for the rest of my
teaching career. For PC7, I feel like I need to mentally be ready to face any challenges that can
occur in a classroom; whether it be behavioural or learning difficulties, I need to know how to
deal with them. I got a lot of support from my C.T. to deal with learning difficulties during my
stage. My C.T. shared some tools and ideas on how to help these students. For PC11, I consider
that I need to be more organized with my documents and when doing my lessons. I happened to
lose my students’ work once, and I learned a lot from it; being organized and having a folder or
bin for each subject is crucial when arranging a classroom. It is important for students to be
independent and know where to put their work once they are done, as much as it is also vital for
me to know how to file my papers and keep them organized.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:

In order to improve my PC 2, 6, 7, 11, I took into consideration the following strategies:

To continue to develop my communication skills, I must review my work and check for any
spelling mistakes, I can get it reviewed by someone stronger in the language or on my own with
online resources. I will be practicing my French, and if ever I notice that I made a mistake while
speaking, I will correct myself right away. To anticipate students’ behaviour, I will need to write
down any behaviour that I notice my students do along the year. I consider that knowing our
students is crucial when teaching since it allows us to be more prepared on what to do. I can find
many ways to manage a classroom online or ask other teachers what they would do without
mentioning any names. I believe that asking for help from experienced teachers is beneficial
since it allows me to have various views and opinions on how to control a classroom. Having a
toolbox ready with every lesson and changing it throughout the year is another way to positively
manage a classroom. I will look over my course notes and the notes I wrote down during my
field experience.

The Action Plan is to be discussed with your Field Supervisor and Co-operating Teacher at
the start of the subsequent Field Experience.
