CAT 307D Gear Pump (Pilot) - Test

Usage:307D DSG

note
When inspecting, maintaining, testing, adjusting and servicing the
engine, please be careful to ensure that the fluid that flows out is
contained. Before opening or disassembling any parts that contain
liquid, prepare a suitable container to collect the liquid.
For tools and supplies suitable for collecting and receiving liquids from
Caterpillar products, please refer to the special publication,
NENG2500, "Cat Dealer Tool Catalog".
Dispose of all liquids in accordance with local laws and regulations.

1. Place the machine on a level ground.

1. Stop the engine.
1. Relieve hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Tests and Adjustments, "Hydraulic System
Pressure-Release".
1. The 311-1362 vacuum cover to the hydraulic tank. Fix the air supply hose to the
assembly. Apply a pressure of 276 to 414 kPa (40 to 60 psi). This step will cause the hydraulic
system to pump out the vacuum.

d.Install the following tools according to the flowmeter tool layout and circuit diagram. Refer
to Figure 1 and Figure 2.
a.Remove the pilot line (7) from the elbow (8) at the pilot filter.
b.Install the seal (6) and cover (9) to the open end of the elbow (8).
c.Assemble the seal (6), joint (5), seal (4), joint (3), seal (2) and joint assembly (1)
and install them on the pilot line (7).

(1) and install them on the joint (21) at the swing motor (23) .
f.Install the seal (18), elbow (29) and supply line (22) to the tee (20).
g.Remove the 311-1362 vacuum cover and install the filler plug of the hydraulic oil tank.
h.Connect the portable hydraulic tester (16) and the test hose between the joint assembly
(1) at the pilot line (7) and the joint assembly (1) at the swing motor (23).

The obstruction of the pump flow may cause the hydraulic test
equipment or related circuit components to malfunction. To prevent
personal injury or equipment damage caused by this, please make sure
to fully open the test equipment valve before starting the engine.

6.Start the engine.

7.Set the machine control to the following settings: engine speed knob "10" and AEC switch off. For
engine speed setting, refer to Tests and Adjustments, "Engine Performance-Test (Engine Speed)".
8.Place the hydraulic activation lever in the unlocked position.
9.Raise the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° ± 5°C (131° ± 9°F).

10.Slowly turn the valve (28) on the portable hydraulic tester (16) clockwise until the pressure
gauge on the portable hydraulic tester reads 4100 kPa (595 PSI).
11.Use 1U-6602 photo speedometer to read engine speed.
12.Record the pilot pump flow and engine speed at 4100 kPa (595 psi) in Table 1.

Note: The technical specification of the pump flow is based on the engine speed of 2000 rpm. In order to
obtain more accurate test results, the following formula should be used to correct the measured flow rate.

Corrected flow =
Measured speed
Flow measurement must be performed when the pressure increases.
