The article that I chose went over the negative affects of bullying in school aged children.

The
article highlighted specific areas of negative impact surrounding use of non-prescription
medication for the social exclusion and frequent pain developed from bullying. The authors
interviewed nineteen teenagers, ages 14-16. The study helped gain insight into how social
exclusion and bullying “affect well-being in adolescents reporting frequent pain and high use of
non-prescription analgesics” (Skarstein, Helseth & Kvarme, 2020). The results showed,
“bullying and social exclusion affects thoughts, feelings and attitudes and thereby the quality of
life of the adolescents we interviewed” (Skarstein, Helseth & Kvarme, 2020).

The article explains how bullying is so common amongst schools. Most teachers would say that
bullying is a huge concern in the classroom. What most people don’t think about is the impact it
has on children experiencing it. This article describes the negative impact, negative behaviors,
and negative emotions children experience when they are bullied. “Our results show
that bullying and social exclusion influence thoughts, feelings and attitudes, and thereby the
well-being of the adolescents we interviewed” (Skarstein, Helseth & Kvarme, 2020). As a future
educator, it is important to find the best way to eliminate this behavior from others to children.

This article is related to the course content because we discussed it in previous modules. The
article describes the negative impact it has on kids. It will absolutely play a role in a teacher’s
life. How can educators be aware of this happening? What can each one do to help bullies
discontinue the behavior and support victims of bullying? This is absolutely related to real-life
situations that must be addressed sooner than later.

I thought the article was well written and very informative with the negative affects of bullying.
There was an experiment performed and results found, which is important when exploring
research. After reading the article, I felt more informed in the topic more than I have been in the
past, which makes me want to continue the fight of bullying in the classroom.
