1. The null hypothesis is that the proportion of ball bearings that are below
2.3cm in diameter will be the same between “sample1” (old manufacturing
method) and “sample2” (new manufacturing method).

The alternative hypothesis is that the two proportions will not be the same.
H a: p 1 ≠ p 2

2. Level of significance is 0.01 (⍺ = 0.05)


3. The test statistic is -0.65. The two tailed p-value = 0.5166.
4. Because the alternative hypothesis is “not equal” rather than a “greater
than” or “less than” I will evaluate using the two-tailed P value.

Because the P value is greater than alpha, the level of significance, I do not
reject the null hypothesis. In order words, there is not enough evidence to
prove that the new manufacturing method does not produce ball bearings that
are under 2.3cm at the same rate as the old method.
