Procedure for Calculation of Uncertainty of Sensor with probe

1.1 SCOPE
The following method of calculating the uncertainty is based on a
measurement Uncertainty in compliance to " Expression of Uncertainty &
confidence in measurement.", UKAS M3003.

TYPE A: Standard Deviation

1.2 PARAMETERS
The parameter which are used for calculating uncertainty, are Uexp is
Expanded Uncertainty.

Uexp = k x UC
And

UC = Ua + Umas + Ustb + Uun + Ures + Udrf + Uin.m + Uin.b

Where,
Ua – Uncertainty due to repeatability
Umas – Uncertainty due to the master sensor
Ustb – Uncertainty due to Stability of liquid bath / dry block
Uun – Uncertainty due to non uniformity of liquid bath / dry block
Ures – Uncertainty due to resolution of UUC
Udrf – Uncertainty due to drift of the master instrument
Uin.m - Uncertainty due to inhomogeneity of thermocouple ( if used ).
UC – Combined uncertainty
Uexp – Expanded Uncertainty

1.3 CALCULATIONS

a) Uncertainty Due to Repeatability

Here, probability of distribution is type A
Ua = Std Deviation
√n

b) Uncertainty due to the master sensor

Probability of distribution is Normal
Umas = Uncertainty of master
√3

c) Uncertainty Due to Stability of liquid bath

Probability of distribution is Rectangular
Ustb = Stability of bath
√3

d) Uncertainty Due to non-uniformity of bath

Probability of distribution is Rectangle
Uun = Actual non – uniformity
√3

e) Uncertainty due to Resolution

Probability of distribution is Rectangular
Ures = Actual Resolution * 1/2
√3

f) Uncertainty due to drift of the master instrument.

Probability of distribution is Rectangular

Udft = Actual Drift
√3

g) Uncertainty due to inhomogeneity of thermocouple

Probability of distribution is Rectangular

Udft = Actual inhomogenity
√3

Combined Uncertainty

UC = Ua2 + Ustb2 + Uun2 + Ures2 + Uin.m2 + Uin.b2+ Udft 2

Expanded Uncertainty
Uexp = 2 x UC

where k = 2 is the coverage factor for 95% distribution.
