A contention is principally a circumstance in which gatherings of individuals,

associations or nations are in a difference or contention (Oxford student's lexicons, n.d.).

Obviously spoke to in our present-day society a smidgen all over the place, both financially

and physically. Other major nations may experience the ill effects of fear-based oppressors

who aren't of a similar thought and the contradicting party will choose to stand up and insist

themselves. This is noticeable in the current circumstance in Cameroon, between the

Cameroon government and the anglophones in the west area of the nation. The Anglophone

Emergency in Cameroon has been believed to put Cameroon in a nearly considerate war. The

issue in Cameroon has provincial roots whereby, the expulsion of these roots is an

overwhelming undertaking to Cameroon's legislature. (Chiwanza, 2018) This contention had

some genuine effect on the nation's populace or society. The two gatherings anticipating the

accomplishment of what they accept is correct and appear to be prepared to do anything to

land at their closures/succeed. With a progressing war and several passing’s, the anglophone

emergency develops and turns out to be increasingly huger for the nation and greatly affects

it. (Zongo, 2018) Whereby, through what I thought and saw, I came out with a research

question being which is all about knowing what are the impacts of the Anglophone

Emergency on Cameroons society, as such, throughout my essay, I shall give out these main

impacts that greatly affect our nation and its population and may hinder the future of our

country greatly, solutions to these different drawbacks both in short run and in the long run

and at the end give my own view on the problem as of what it is now about how I see it to be,

the way it affects us and maybe it could have or shall affect me too in the future.

To fire up, we must take a gander at the foundation of the issue which isn’t really

shown or told out loud but, as we learn, Bilingual Cameroon, an association of two sections

colonized independently by the English and the French, has since a long time ago had a

delicate amicability. In 2016, the injuries became bigger as the Anglophone party, fighting

the inconvenience of French frameworks in the courts and schools were assaulted, and all

things considered, prompted a war between the legislature and separatists (Egbejul, 2018).

From the beginning of the emergency, the administration's sense has been to react to dissent

and complaints with power. These activities have had a high human expense. Guide Akere

Muna through a news report on web that," Cameroonians in the hundreds have lost their lives

pointlessly while passing on everything that should be passed on and their longing for

Cameroon and others stay detained under conditions that may well have been avoided by the

direct choice of talk over experience and concealment." Over the earlier months, passing’s

over passing’s, legitimate ordinary people are being killed without reason, paying little heed

to whether stressed in the attacks or not, you are been shot, either from the battling

anglophone party or from the organization's intercession powers. The Overall Crisis Get-

together, which says the all-inclusive reaction has been calmed, measures that in any

occasion 2,000 people have kicked the can in the dispute, with another 170,000 unstuck. A

dark number of people are in like manner remaining in bed open woodlands without formal

camps. There is an absence of toilets and genuine clean conditions for draining youngsters

and women in the easy-going host systems. On overview this, essentially delineating myself

in such spot at such time is just alarming, by what strategy will they at any cost, administer

such huge crisis whereby, we have many passing’s, and more people endeavouring to

leave/escape from the nation. Along with the secessionists are blameless residents who have

been captured, confined and in the instances of some imprisoned for 15-year sentences or

more, on exaggerated accusations of fear based oppression, says Agbor Nkongho, chief of

Place for Human Rights and Majority rule government in Africa (CHRDA) in Buea.

(Egbejul, 2018) This circumstance profoundly expands the passing pace of the nation

contrasted with its introduction to the world rate, which diminishes the future in Cameroon.

Such a circumstance makes it hard for the economy of the nation to develop and in the most

noticeably terrible situation, make it to go from creating to immature nation relying upon how

great and quick they handle the circumstance which is before them. As given by APA News,

this is a table of the number of children deaths per 1000 births in different age groups in the

DRC (APA News, 2018);

Age (Month/Year) Amount per 1000 births

0 – 1 month 28
1 – 11 months 30
11 – 12 months 58
12 months – 4 years 49
4 – 5 years 104

With 60% of the GDP of Cameroon is earned in Ambazonia. Oil and wood are abused

by remote associations, yet the advantages go to Yaoundé. Of course, there is purportedly no

money to oblige English-talking educators, said Ayaba in a gathering by phone, stresses of

how the countries economy may adjust later are raised. (Zongo, 2018) Taking the Southwest

for example, Essomba(an business expert who was presented request) attested that the Region

with its oil creation, colossal agro-undertakings like CDC and PAMOL and other gigantic

money related activities, is obviously the first among the 10 areas in a long time of duty to

the economy. At the Mboppi Market, which is one of the best rebate grandstands in Central

Africa, vendors have been whimpering of a colossal drop in their ordinary turnover. It is a

similar story at the Douala Central Market where various traders in the Southwest and

Northwest Districts are said to get their arrangements. With a log jam in monetary activities

in the two Anglophone Areas, the suppliers are persevering through the negative effect since

the vendors have expected to diminish their excursions to Douala, in this way their

solicitations. Of course, tremendous sustenance features in the Northwest and Southwest

Areas like Muea Market that for the most part supply Douala, Yaounde and past have

furthermore upheld off. With the Anglophone crisis fuming on, and especially the phantom

town undertakings which in like manner impacts journeys, various pieces of exchange have

been hit hard. This consolidates between urban transporters in Douala and elsewhere.

Responses are to be made. With the trading structure backing off, the most recognizably

horrible isn't strange. The Northwest and Southwest Locales share an outskirt with Nigeria

and are significant portals via land and via ocean between the two nations. Though the

Cameroon Government claims that the Douala Port handles some 95 percent of the import

and export trade of the nation, the paper cites the report of a World Bank study which shows

that Nigeria is the biggest trading partner of Cameroon, with annual commercial exchanges

running over FFA 4,000 billion. About 20 percent of Cameroon’s import is said to come from

Nigeria, while Cameroon’s exports to Nigeria is only 5 percent. Meanwhile, with trade

between Cameroon and Nigeria being impaired by the Anglophone crisis, a senior customs

official is quoted to have disclosed to the French language daily that a drop in the collection

of customs duty by Cameroon is being noticed at customs posts at the Cameroon-Nigerian

border, including the Tiko, Ekondo-Titi and Idenau ports in the Southwest. The economic

weight of the Southwest Region may not be visible to many people, because of the

controversial decision of the Government to compel several big companies in the region to

pay their taxes either in Douala or Yaounde. Such a situation is misleading as the Southwest

Region is deprived of the credit for its rich natural resources. The National Oil Refinery,

SONARA, for example is said to pay its taxes in Douala instead of Limbe where it is located,

or even in Ndian Division where the crude oil really comes from. (Pefok, 2017) The country

can try to boostbbusinesses in unaffected regions to offset economic losses, giving some

authorizations to some industries in other regions to do more than what they presently do,

providing a tax break that is going to make them more able to work out for the good of the

country, with enough profit from this different companies, they will be able to more easily

handle the crisis, provide health care, etc. In such situation, the rest will depend on the

countries ability to support or handle the crisis in order to reduce the effects of it on the

citizens of the country as time goes on. As a cause of this crisis, many jobs have been halted

and the west part of the country being a center for the extraction of many important raw

materials such as timber, cotton, aluminum, rubber sectors, and many more sold in the

Cameroon’s sale market are all at pause, as such, making the economy of the country to slow

and cause the country to lose a certain amount of money on trying to handle the crisis.

With the multiple acts of violence and attacks against citizens due to this crisis,

schools have suffered some heavy lost. Taking in the example of the lebialem division which

is in the south west region of the country. The Anglophone crisis has had a severe impact on

education in the Lebialem division. Virtually every school has been shut down in the division

for close to two years now. Most of the pupils and students who have managed to find a way

to continue with their education are in Dschang, Fongo Tongo and other towns in the Menoua

division, a neighboring division in the West region in French Cameroon. Around 4 months

back from now, a locally made explosive exploded in Fontem subdivision killing two

children and severely wounding another. These are children who would have been in school

if not for the crisis. Several others have lost their lives in gun battles. With more and more

children’s getting killed or others running from school due to all of these, the future of the

country is kind of uncertain because, without the labor required to rule and bring the country

beyond the possible, we cant be sure that in the near future, all of these problems will be
Name: Mbiankeu Yves Potiron Date: 08/11/2019
Class: Dp-1
gone, if the future generation will be able to handle everything, how the countries peace is

going to be maintained. With a lack of labor, it will be difficult for the country to trade with

other countries as they won’t see Cameroon as a good and efficient trading partner, economy

might fall or lower and many other things negative to country might even happen. Still under

the case of lebialem, most of the citizens present in the division have either fled to Dschang

in the West region, Buea and other safer towns in and beyond the south west or have resorted

to staying in the bushes. (Gabriel, 2019) With streets abandoned and completely empty, that

is what places around the zone of impact of the anglophone crisis resemble. Not even a soul

out and all places which used to be center of entertainment, parties, etc. are completely at

pause. The fear the citizens have, causing them either to stay in their houses enclosed (for

those who can’t manage to get away) and others trying to illegally run away from the

country, this increase in emigration just brings a decrease in the GDP of the country, lack of

labor and the life expectancy of the country. They are tired of not being able to go to their

farms and markets. They are tired of living uncomfortably in other regions and worst, in the

bushes with very horrible and devastating conditions. They are tired of losing their children

and love ones to gun battles. Children are tired of staying at home. Most, they have missed

their usual way of life enough. They have missed the activities that bring joy to them. At this

point when basic supplies cannot reach the division, how do the young people who are left

behind get sanitary pads and other basic needs? In such situation, the government is supposed

to be able to bring or provide this basic needs to the population in danger or simply, manage

to come down to more pacific way of resolving the problem which causes a lot of deaths

among the Cameroonian population and brings up heavy lost to the country, both financially,

economically and physically. A country arriving at such point of economical instability is

supposed to be alarming, considering that the anglophone crisis isn’t the only problem the

country is facing because, with the terrorist group of Bokho Haram still present in the

northern part of the country, peace isn’t full in the territory. Hundreds of Cameroonians

killed, kids kidnapped, raped and many others, the situation is rea;;y bad, although we may be

calm today, this small amount of peace we currently have can suddenly evaporate at any

moment and the most possible out come shall be chaos as the crisis reaches its highest point.

As of what is presently going on, the Cameroonian government must step up over

these up rising and greatly present and costly crisis in the country. With deaths all around,

lost of farms, schools where children are no more present, a great impact putting over the

economy of the country, lost of the main raw material goods producing the highest

percentage of sale of the country as such, lowering our trading capability as other countries

may be concerned or afraid due to the instability in the country. Pressuring terrorist group

which makes us to stay even more alert on the problem. As of what I think and know about

all of this, of course, we presently don’t have complete peace in our country, either because

of external forces like the book haram or the anglophone crisis, conflicts between citizens due

to this crisis submerge and worst is possible. The government has to be more aware of what is

coming up front and able to find a way as soon as possible in order to bring back peace or

else many social activities in the country shall halt, such as musicians coming to have

concert, football matches against great countries or teams shall not be possible, etc. as

consequence of all of that, the country shall be in a very bad state compared to what it is of

now. Many people currently run away from the country due to this problem, the country has

make new bonds with other countries so they can help us supply some basic needs to the

population then, a solution of peace whereby the government comes into an agreement with

the anglophone party so it can stop, reinforcement and making the military more skilled so

they track down any terrorist group still present in the country which in return shall make

more people to feel safe, now the rest is left to the government to make the country more

appealing and welcoming so more people come to the country, Cameroonians come back,

more tourist present, therefore more people spending in hotels and on touristic sites which in

return brings a high amount of profit/income to the country and as a result, the economy shall

rise again even more. As of what it is right now, the best we can do is to pray that this whole

mess calms down and stop or in if possible try to support the government and affected people

by this crisis financially, heavy losses have been felt on both sides and further clashes shall

not be good.
