REFLECTION 2

My love and passion for teaching all started in fifth grade. Fifth grade is when I met my

favorite teacher, Mrs. Foy. Mrs Foy was fairly new to teaching at the time. She was not at all like

any of the other teachers I had. Mrs. Foy still had that spark for teaching.Mrs. Foy believed in me

and she helped me through the challenges I faced at this new school. I knew in fifth grade that I

wanted to become a teacher, so that I could be the change for future students. It’s amazing how

much one person can impact someones life.

A great teacher should have a well planned curriculum. A great teacher will incorporate

hands-on learning, cooperative learning, projects, and individual work that engage and activate

students learning. I believe that the only way to promote learning in the best way possible, the

teacher must be enthusiastic about the material she is presenting. A great teacher will have

patience and will ensure that no child is left behind.

Education is important because knowledge is power, everything that can be learned

cannot be taken away from you. The world will always have a need for teachers. Being an

educator we can also touch the lives of the families and get involved with our community. It is

important that a teacher assists her students to express themselves and accept themselves for who

they are. The greatest obstacle in life is poverty. Schools are under funded and the children are

the ones who suffer. My goal is to teach in public education.

The great advocate for education, Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “ The future belongs to

those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Every career starts with a dream, teaching is

mine. My philosophy of education is based on what I know and have experienced at this point in

my career. As I grow, my teaching philosophy will change as I learn more as a young

professional. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.
