Reflection of Professional Goals for PS1

Goal 1
I was surprised at how quickly I was able to connect with the students. Most students were excited to share things
about themselves and tell me about their lives. Although the practicum was only five weeks long, I feel that I was
able to build meaningful relationships with most of the students I had their names memorized by the end of my first
day and from there I continued to learn more about them and further those relationships.
Below is a class list with some things that I learned about each student over the course of this practicum.

Goal 2
By observing my TA, I learned that she has many different classroom management strategies. The two that I think I
would use in my classrooms in the future are happy buckets and wow points. The happy bucket is a bucket at the
front of the room and when students are working hard or do something good, they get a little piece of paper that they
write their name on and put in the happy bucket. On Friday’s the teacher draws names from the bucket for prizes.
The students all loved this and it was a quick way to award students who were on task and motivate those who were
not.
The other technique that I really liked was WOW points. These were kept track of with tallies on the white board
and they were for when the whole class did something really well. If the whole class was working really hard for a
period or lined up and walked to the gym very quietly, they might earn a WOW point. Once the class reaches 20
points, they get a WOW party, which is some fun games or activities or a movie. These points can also be taken
away if the class is not listening or not behaving as a whole.
