FAQs on SafeEntry Implementation at CGH

(Information is accurate as of 12 May 2020)

1. What is SafeEntry and what is it for?

SafeEntry is a national digital check-in system that logs the names, NRIC/ FINs and
mobile numbers of individuals visiting places offering essential services like hospitals, as
well as selected public venues to facilitate contact tracing.

SafeEntry is used for data collection and verification at entry/ exit points through
scanning of:
(1) a QR code displayed at the venue, or
(2) an identification card with a barcode (e.g. NRIC, driver’s license, and work permit)
scanned by staff.

2. Why does CGH need to use SafeEntry?

As we move towards relaxing the circuit breaker measures, it is even more critical that
contact tracing be done well to mitigate the risk of new waves of infection. SafeEntry
helps support contact tracing efforts as it provides authorities with a record of individuals
who enter and exit places. The records will reduce the time needed to identify potential
close contacts of COVID-19 patients. This is important so that we can continue
advancing towards fewer restrictions on our movements and our daily life and to
collectively prevent new clusters from forming.

3. Who should use SafeEntry? Do I need to check out on SafeEntry when I leave?

All entering our premises will have to record your entry and exit via SafeEntry.

4. Do I still need to do the Travel and Health declaration after using SafeEntry?

Yes. All entering our premises will be required to fill in the Travel and Health declaration
to ensure the safety of individuals at our premises. Many of our patients are vulnerable
and we have to keep them safe by reducing any risk of cross infection.

5. I am coming to the Specialist Outpatient Clinic/Day Surgery/Endoscopy/Same Day

Admission. What should I bring?

Please ensure that you and your loved one each bring your identification card with a
barcode (e.g. NRIC, driver’s license, work permit) for our staff to scan. You may also
scan the QR code displayed at any of the entry points to register your entry or ‘check in’.
Once you have completed this process, you may proceed to the temperature and
screening counter for your Travel and Health declaration. You will be provided with a
sticker after completing the registration and can proceed to your appointment venue.

6. I am going to visit someone ill in the ward. What should I do?

While the enhanced national measures are in effect, no ward visitors are allowed.
However, we do make exceptions for special conditions (e.g. consent taking or palliative
care). All entering our premises will still have to register via SafeEntry as well as fill in
the Travel and Health declaration form. We thank you for your understanding.

7. Why does the hospital still need me to register at the Visitor Management
Services Counter (VMA) before I can enter the ward?

While we do make exceptions for special conditions (e.g. consent taking or palliative
care), we will require you to register at the Visitor Management Services. Our staff there
will help to verify the purpose of your visit so that we can make an exception for those
who meet these conditions. We thank you for your understanding.

8. Do I need to use SafeEntry if I already have the Trace Together app?

As we move towards relaxing the circuit breaker measures, it is even more critical that
contact tracing be done well to mitigate the risk of new waves of infection.
TraceTogether and SafeEntry jointly make the contact tracing more efficient as they
track slightly different data.

TraceTogether uses Bluetooth to identify other nearby phones with the app installed.
This app tracks (with timestamps) when you are in close proximity with people who have
the app installed and have Bluetooth turned on. If the need arises, this information can
then be used to distinguish between a casual contact or close contact based on the
proximity and duration of each encounter.

9. What do I need to enter CGH?

You may present any of the following for scanning into SafeEntry upon entry:
a) Your Identification Card /Work Permit /Passion card/other ID cards
b) Mobile phone with a QR code scanner app
c) For a child below 7 years, the child’s Birth Certificate (Singapore) or Passport
d) Hospital clinic appointment card or appointment reminder which has the patient’s
identification number printed as a bar code
e) Work Permit card or Work Pass (for foreigners working in Singapore)
f) Passport (for foreigners working in Singapore)

10. What happens if I do not use SafeEntry?

measures, we regret to inform you that entry into the hospital may be restricted due to
safe distancing regulations.
