VR Eye Tracking
Track attention in virtual environments
The Eye Tracking - VR module enables users to connect, record, and live visualize eye
tracking data in VR simulations. Researchers can explore attentional processes in any
virtual environment, opening up a huge range of new research possibilities.

Single platform for integration and research with eye tracking in VR and other biosensors

Advanced analytic tools for understanding attention in any VR environment

Bring other biosensors into research with eye tracking in VR to gain a deeper
understanding of participant responses

VR Eye Tracking Module Features
Assess reactions in any VR environment

Next generation research

Eye tracking in immersive VR is transforming how

studies can be conducted, and it opens up entirely
new research possibilities for professionals in fields
such as psychology, shopper research, training, and
performance assessment.

Advanced analysis

All of the eye tracking metrics that are available for

eye tracking glasses are also available in the VR eye
tracking module. This includes not only time to first
fixation, heatmaps, time spent, and more, but also
gaze mapping. Gaze mapping converts the spatially
3D responses to 2D replays and heatmaps that can be
easily aggregated across participants and can provide
quick insights.

iMotions provides integrations with a

variety of biosensors

Integrate and synchronize 50+ different sensors from ®

20+ independent vendors, across 10+ modalities. Add

even more sensors through the Lab Streaming Layer.
Forward data in real time and import external sensor
/ software data and loop it back into the platform via
Argus Science

the API.

Next generation technology for advanced research
The VR eye tracking module allows the collection of eye tracking data through the Tobii
Pro HTC Vive, or Varjo headset - both with built-in eye tracking. These headsets are built
to high-end specifications, readily complementing other biosensors and data.

The Varjo VR-1 Headset
VR at a level of detail like never before
Varjo Technologies is based in Helsinki and makes revolutionary VR/XR hardware that is
jumpstarting a new era in immersive computing – where real and digital worlds merge
seamlessly in human-eye resolution. The Bionic Display technology allows you to see
virtual and augmented content as clearly as you see the real world.

The integration

The Varjo VR-1 headset is the world’s first and only hu-
man-eye resolution VR device. The display resolution
of the Varjo headset operates at the level that the hu-
man eye can see, creating incredible visual fidelity that
allows users to fully immerse and interact realistically
within their environment. The eye tracking is carried
out using a unique infrared illumination approach, and
combined with computer vision algorithms, provides
eye tracking accuracy of less than one degree of visual
angle.

The headset

Varjo’s Bionic Display™ delivers an unprecedented

resolution of 60 pixels per degree – the equivalent of
20/20 vision. Every detail, texture, contour, and color
are all just as crisp and clear as they are in the real
world. You can read the smallest text and see objects
at a distance. And real-time illumination appears just
as it does in the real world.

The Tobii Pro HTC Vive Headset
Made for eye tracking research in VR
Tobii is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of both screen-based eye trackers and
eye tracking glasses, and they have brought their expertise to the forefront with the HTC
Vive VR headset integration. The Tobii Pro VR Integration allows researchers to run eye
tracking studies in fully-controlled virtual environments without compromising the VR
experience.

The integration

The eye tracking platform integrated into the VR

headset is designed and tested to deliver robust,
high-performance eye tracking at 120Hz for a majority
of the world’s population, including tracking through
most prescription glasses. The advanced slippage
compensation handles movements of the headset
and maintains the accuracy and calibration, allowing
the user to move naturally during the experience
without losing performance in eye tracking.

The headset

The Tobii Pro VR Integration is a retrofitted version

of the HTC Vive headset. The eye tracking platform
is incorporated directly into the headset, which
ensures no interference with the user experience of
VR. The proprietary Tobii EyeChip™ handles the data
processing and puts a minimum load on the host CPU.
No external cables are needed, because eye tracking
data is transmitted via the standard HTC Vive cables.
