The airbag control module -J234- is located

behind the console on the tunnel. It is equipped
with DTC memory. The On Board Diagnostic
(OBD) connection for vehicles 12.95 is
located above the relay carrier, for vehicles
01.96 the OBD connection is located to the
right of the instrument cluster, and for vehicles
09.98 the connection is located in the steering
column trim.

The control module detects malfunctions in the

airbag system and stores them in permanent
memory.

After ignition is switched on, the airbag

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) -K75- lights
up for about 3 seconds and then goes out
again. If the airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp
(MIL) blinks for a further 12 seconds, this
indicates that the passenger-side airbag is
deactivated.

If the airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp

(MIL) -K75- does not go out after about 3
seconds, there is a malfunction in the
voltage supply for the airbag control module
-J234-. Check DTC memory page 01-12 .

If the airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp

(MIL) -K75- goes on again, there is a
malfunction. Check DTC memory page
01-12 .
To begin troubleshooting, initiate On Board
Diagnostic (OBD) and read out stored data
using the V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (ST).

The indicated diagnostic data leads to a DTC

table with notes regarding potential malfunction
causes and specific repair procedures.

The central locking system control module

(remote control) -J276- is located behind the
instrument cluster. It is equipped with DTC
memory. The connection for On Board
Diagnostic (OBD) is located in the steering
column trim.

The control module detects malfunctions in the

remote control and stores them in permanent
memory.

To begin troubleshooting, initiate On Board

Diagnostic (OBD) and read out stored data
using the V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (ST).

The indicated diagnostic data leads to a DTC

table with notes regarding potential malfunction
causes and specific repair procedures.

Malfunctions caused by sporadic open circuits

or loose contacts are also stored. These
malfunctions are indicated as sporadic "SP".

Synchronization is necessary when the vehicle

does not open or close when radio-frequency
button is operated or when the relevant
malfunction is indicated in the Read measuring
value block function. It is possible that the key
code and control module code no longer match.
This can occur if the send button on the key is
operated frequently outside the operational
range of the system.

The vehicle key(s) must be re-synchronized if

this occurs. The synchronization procedure
must not last longer than 1 minute.

- Press and hold lock or unlock wave button on

key to be synchronized for 1 second. The key
code will be recognized and activated.

- Using the new key (being adapted),

mechanically lock or unlock the vehicle within
1 minute (i.e. driver-side door) or lock it via
the internal locking switch.

- The adaptation procedure has been

completed.
