NATIONAL NEWS
1. West Bengal’s Majerhat Bridge has been renamed as the “Jai Hind Bridge” as a tribute to
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose whose 125th birth anniversary will be celebrated in 2022.

2. Central govt has created a new defence post of Director General of Information Warfare in
the headquarters, as part its reorganisation of Army Headquarters.
• The new post will deal with the needs of the future battlefield, hybrid warfare and social
media also.
• The new post of Director General of Information Warfare has been created under the
Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Strategy.

3. First-ever Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Young Scientist Conclave was


organized by the Indian Department of Science and Technology at CSIR- Indian Institute
of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad.
• Theme - Shaping SCO-STI Partnership: Young Scientists Perspectives.

4. Sequoia India has partnered with NITI Aayog’s Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP)
to promote women entrepreneurship in India and South-east Asia.
• Through this partnership, Sequoia India will mentor a select group of aspiring women
founders to mentor them for setting up and scaling their businesses.
• The first cohort will have 25 women entrepreneurs.

5. India’s first mobile Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) dispensing unit was launched.
• It will be operated by Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MNGL) in Pune.
• Five MNGL’s stations were also inaugurated through video conference.

6. Department of Space has entered into a first of its kind Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
with M/s Agnikul Cosmos Pvt. Ltd for building private small satellite launch vehicle.

• Agnikul is a start-up company located in the National Centre for combustion R&D, IIT-
Madras, Chennai.
• Under the agreement, the company will get facilities and technical expertise available in
ISRO centers to proceed with their launch vehicle development program.

7. APEDA and NABARD have signed an MoU to work together to synergize the activities in the
field of agriculture and allied sectors for bringing better value to the stakeholders.
• APEDA stands for Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development
Authority.

8. Zoological Survey of India conducted the first ever survey on the Malayan giant squirrel
(Ratufa bicolor) which found that the population of this squirrel would decline by 90% in India
by 2050.
• The species could even become extinct in the country in subsequent decades, if urgent
steps are not taken.
• India is home to three giant squirrel species; the other two – Indian Giant Squirrel and
Grizzled Giant Squirrel – are found in peninsular India.
• Of the roughly 1.84 lakh sq. km of the squirrel’s range in Asia, about 8.5% (15,635 sq. km)
is in India.
• The population of the squirrel in India declined by 30% over the last two decades.
• The Malayan Giant Squirrel, one of the world's largest squirrel species, is currently found
in parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland.

9. NITI Aayog has released the rankings of aspirational districts for the month of October
2020.

• Total - 112 aspirational districts
• Top - Mamit district of Mizoram; followed by Banka (Bihar) and Dhenkanal (Odisha) at the
second and third positions.
• Parameters - Health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial
inclusion, skill development and basic infrastructure.
• The aspirational districts' programme was launched in January 2018.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS
1. The US House of Representatives has passed the Gandhi-King Scholarly Exchange
Initiative Act to promote Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr’s legacies.
• An educational forum will be established in partnership with India to impart knowledge
about their ideologies to the aspirants of both countries.
• The act is written by civil rights icon Late John Lewis and co-sponsored by Indian-
American Congressman Ami Bera.
• A professional development training initiative on conflict resolution based on the principles
of non-violence will be set up, along with a foundation to address social, environmental, and
health priorities in India.
• Budget - USD 1 million p.a. till 2025 for the Gandhi-King Scholarly Exchange Initiative; $2
million for FY 2021 for the Gandhi-King Global Academy, and $30 million for 2021 for the
US-India Gandhi-King Development Foundation.

2. UN Environment Program has released the Production Gap 2030 report.


• The world needs to decrease the fossil fuel production by roughly 6% p.a. between 2020-30
to limit temperature rise to 1.5º C.
• Instead, governments are planning increases of 2% p.a. This would double the fossil fuel
production than what is consistent with the 1.5º C target by 2030.
• The govts have provided more funds to the fossil fuel businesses than clean energy
businesses through economic stimulus packages.
• Production Gap Report was first launched in 2019.

• The report is modelled after the UNEP’s Emissions Gap Report series. This report conveys
the large discrepancy between countries' planned fossil fuel production and the global
production levels necessary to limit warming to 1.5°C and 2°C.

3. 7th IEF-IGU Ministerial Gas Forum was organized by International Energy Forum (IEF), the
International Gas Union (IGU), and Malaysia PM (H.E. Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia.
• Theme - "Towards Recovery and Shared Prosperity: Natural Gas Opportunities for a
Sustainable World."

4. Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska is the largest national wildlife refuge in the USA.

5. Pakistan and China are constructing a 700 MW Azad Pattan hydropower project on
Jhelum River in Sudhoti district in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, as part of the China-Pakistan
Economic Corridor (CPEC).

BANKING AND ECONOMY
1. Bank of India will acquire 49% stake each in BOI AXA Investment Managers Pvt Ltd and
BOI AXA Trustee Services Pvt Ltd from AXA Investment Managers Asia Holdings.
• Purpose: to make both these entities Bank of India’s fully owned subsidiaries.
• Bank of India currently holds 51% equity shares each in BAIM and BATS.

2. CREDAI-MCHI has partnered with State Bank of India, Google, and BookMyShow for the
first virtual edition of India’s largest Real-Estate Expo to be held between Dec 4 -13, 2020.
• Purpose: to bring credible developers and genuine homebuyers at one platform.
• CREDAI-MCHI’s President, Deepak Goradia, has announced that it is India’s first such
collaboration in the history of Real-Estate.

3. Axis Bank, in partnership with Rupifi, has launched a co-branded business credit card
for the MSME segment. The Co-Branded credit card is powered by Visa.

4. PayNearby has partnered with YES Bank and National Payments Corporation of India
(NPCI) to launch PayNearby Shopping Card to give maximum benefits of digital commerce to
its retail partners in the mass market category.

5. RBI has announced to extend its Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) and Marginal
Standing Facility (MSF) to Scheduled Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to provide an additional
avenue for liquidity management to them.
• However, RRBs need to fulfil following criteria:
o Implement Core Banking Solution (CBS)
o There is a minimum CRAR of 9% and
o Fully compliant with the terms and conditions for availing LAF and MSF issued by
Financial Markets Operations Department (FMOD), Reserve Bank of India.

1. Lieutenant General Rajeev Chaudhary has been appointed as the 27th Director General of
Border Roads Organisation.

2. Hindustan Unilever Limited has appointed Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador of its
adult nutrition brand, Horlicks Protein Plus.

3. Heidi Alberta Hulan has been appointed as the Chairperson of International Atomic
Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Board of Governors for 2020–2021.

4. Mr. Shrikant Madhav Vaidya (Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation) has been appointed as the
First Vice-President of World LPG Association (WLPGA).

5. Banks Board Bureau (BBB) has recommended S Ramann and Shivendra Tomar for the
posts of CMD and MD & CEO of SIDBI and Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI),
respectively.

1. Death anniversary of BR Ambedkar is called as Mahaparinirvana Diwas.
• BR Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 and died on 6 December 1956.

released.

MISCELLANEOUS
1. 40 Years with Abdul Kalam: Untold Stories book has been authored by Sivathanu Pillai.
• The foreword of this book was written by the late Shri Pranab Mukherjee, former
President of India.

2. S. Ramakrishnan, former Director of Indian Space Research Organisation’s Vikram Sarabhai
Space Centre (VSSC), has passed away.

3. Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu virtually released a commemorative postage stamp to


honour former Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral on his 101st birth anniversary.
• "Gujral Doctrine" – it is a set of principles that govern India’s relations with neighbouring
countries, given by IK Gujral.

4. NASA’s scientists have confirmed that 2020 SO is the Surveyor 2 Centaur rocket booster,
which was used in NASA’s ill-fated 1966 Surveyor 2 mission to the Moon.
