Instrument Strength & Methodology of

compressed air audit

Methodology for Assessment of Compressor and Compressed Air Network
 Installation of portable instrument like compressed air flow meter and power analyser to
record the CFM delivered at delivered actual pressure and power consumption for the period
of 1 hr. to access the compressor performance (kW/CFM and volumetric efficiency)
 Carry out pressure mapping of Air/n2 network i.e. pressure drops across piping, equipment,
dryers, filters, traps etc.
 Study existing operational controls and its performance e.g. like operating controls, network
design, over-pressurization in header, compressed air requirement pattern, existing storage
capacities and its utilization, usage pattern, piping issues, dryer & separator controls and
working philosophies etc.
 Review of Compressors operating practices and utilisation of compressed air.
 Design data collection of compressor, dryer, piping P & ID etc.

A Brief introduction and technical specification of required instrument has summaries below,

Instrument Strength

Compressed Air flow meter

The VPFlowScope® Probe measures mass flow, temperature and
pressure simultaneously. This probe can handle various diameters
and measures in both directions. This makes it the ultimate
compressed air audit tool used by leading auditors worldwide.
Although the VPFlowScope Probe has been designed for dry
compressed air, we also have a measuring probe for wet
compressed air; the VPFlowScope DP.

Specifications
Measuring principle - Differential pressure
Flow range - 20 to 200 nm/s | Bi-directional measurement
Accuracy - 2% to 3% of reading
Gases - Wet compressed air, Dry compressed air, Nitrogen
Pressure sensor range - 0 to 16 bar
Pressure accuracy - +/- 1.5%, Temperature compensate
Temperature sensor range - -40 to +150°C
Temperature accuracy - +/- 1 °C

Modification Requirement for measuring the flow rate

Minimum 1” tapping required for inserting probe at measuring point with 5D-10D dimensions.

Digital Pressure Gauge (Make-Keller Leo-2)

LEO 2 is a compact, micro-processor (µP) controlled, highly accurate and versatile pressure
measuring instrument with digital indication. The piezo resistive pressure transducer as the heart of
the instrument has gone through extensive pressure- and temperature tests. Its characteristics are
stored in the instruments internal EEPROM. The µP of the LEO 2 reads the characteristic values and
calculates therefrom the pressure to an accuracy of < 0, 1 %FS at room temperature.
