PRESS NOTE

Subject: Bye-elections to fill vacancies in the Legislative Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh,

Orissa and West Bengal.

The Election Commission has decided to hold elections to fill the following casual vacancies in
the State Legislative Assemblies.

2. The schedule for bye-elections will be as follows: -

1. Issue of notifications 07.06.2002 (Friday)

2. Last date for making nominations 14.06.2002 (Friday)
3. Scrutiny of nominations 15.06.2002 (Saturday)
4. Last date for the withdrawal of candidatures 17.06.2002 (Monday)
5. Date of poll 02.07.2002 (Tuesday)
6. Counting of votes 04.07.2002 (Thursday)
7. Date before which election shall be completed 08.07.2002 (Monday)

3. The Commission has decided to use electronic voting machines in the above mentioned
constituencies.

4. The Model Code of Conduct comes into effect immediately. The Model Code of Conduct will
apply to the whole of the district or districts in which part of any assembly constituency going for bye-
election is included.
