VLE by Modified Raoult’s law

5. Henry law

1
Problem on Modified Raoult’s law, Bubble point and Dew point:
For the system methanol (1)/methyl acetate (2), the following equation provide a reasonable
correlation for activity coefficient,
𝑙𝑛𝛾1 = 𝐴𝑥2 2 and 𝑙𝑛𝛾2 = 𝐴𝑥1 2 Where A = 2.771 – 0.00523 T

In addition, the following Antoine equation provides vapor pressures:

3643.31 2666.54
𝑙𝑛𝑃1 𝑠𝑎𝑡 = 16.59158 − ; 𝑙𝑛𝑃2 𝑠𝑎𝑡 = 14.25326 −
𝑇−33.424 𝑇−53.424

Where ‘T’ is in kelvin and the vapor pressures are in kPa. Assuming the validity of modified
Raoult’s law, calculate,

Problem on Henry and Raoult’s Law:
A sealed CAN of “soda” contains the carbonated system of carbon dioxide
(CO2) and water. The mole fraction of CO2 in liquid is 0.008 with 982 bar
Henry’s constant (at 288.15 K) and P2sat = 0.01311 bar. Determine the
composition of vapor and liquid phases within the CAN and the pressure exerted
on the CAN at 288.15 K.
