Municipal Corporation of Delhi provides civic services to rural and urban villages, resettlement
colonies, regularized unauthorized colonies, and unregularized slum/squatter settlements, etc. The
biggest challenge of MCD at the present date is the heaps of garbage lying across the streets and
roads in the entire state. Despite having a well-defined garbage collection process where the
garbage collection truck comes to a designated place and lifts the garbage, the garbage can still be
seen lying on the streets and roadside every time there is inspection. A preliminary analysis done by
the MCD inspectors showed the following probable reasons for this

• Garbage collection Vans not picking the garbage

• Residents not dumping the garbage in the designated dumping location
• Residents dumping the garbage after the truck has departed
• Designated Dumping location has less storage capacity
