The Windows Server: New Features and Upgrade workshop provides
students with a comprehensive introduction to the wide range of new
and improved features in Windows Server 2016.
Throughout all the modules, we will provide a broad understanding on
new or updated features and roles in Windows Server 2016.

Hosted Labs:
Participants will need a
computer running at least
Windows 7, with 50 GB free
drive space, a USB port, a
100 Mbps or faster network
adapter. Participants also
need a Microsoft/Windows
Live ID to connect to the
virtual environment. The
classroom must be
networked, with access to
the Internet and at least
total Internet bandwidth of
10 megabits per second.
TCP port 443 must be
open. We highly
recommend a wired
network in the classroom.
Syllabus
This workshop runs for 4 full days. Students should anticipate consistent
start and end times for each day. Early departure on any day is not
recommended.
Module 01: Getting Started: Overview of new and improved roles and
features in Windows Server 2016. Learn the new installation options and
update scenarios.
Module 02: Security and Assurance: Evaluate new credential protections
against Pass-the-Hash. Identify delegated administration models
including Just Enough Administration and Privileged Access
Management.
Module 03: Identity: Understand updates to Identity management
including Windows Hello for Business and Active Directory privileged
access protections.
Module 04: Storage: Analyze new storage capabilities including Storage
Spaces Direct, Storage Replica, and SMB hardening.
Module 05: Remote Desktop Services: Learn about new hybrid
deployment scenarios and additional features for expanding your
mobile office solutions.
Module 06: Failover Clustering: Evaluate new features including Cluster
Rolling Upgrades and Site-aware Failover Clustering.
Module 07: Nano Server: Understand deployment and servicing options
for Nano Server. Analyze and deploy compatible windows server roles.
Module 08: Windows Containers: Explain the deployment model using
security isolation at the application or kernel layer using DevOps
management principles.
Module 09: Hyper-V: Identify the core improvements and advanced
capabilities of the Software-Defined Datacenter with virtualization using
Hyper-V.
