Cross culture and communication : Video naration

The story begins with Yip Man's declining health condition. The martial arts master was
diagnosed with cancer so he needed to maintain his body condition. Not wanting his son's life to
be neglected when he died, Yip Man tried to find opportunities so that his son could migrate and
study in the United States. This desire arose, when Yip Man received an invitation from his
student, Bruce Lee, who asked his teacher to come to the United States to watch a martial arts
tournament.

However, Yip Man's journey in the United States did not go smoothly. He got confrontation
from the Kungfu Masters association because of the attitude of his student, Bruce Lee, who
introduced kung fu and taught it to American society. This activity is considered a form of
betrayal, because it teaches the values of Chinese society to other people.

Not only pressure from fellow kung fu masters, Yip Man also had to deal with a US military
who was racist and considered kung fu not worthy of being called self-defense or even being
taught as a science of self-defense in the military realm.

As we know in the IP Man 4 movie, we will find out the ethnocentrism side of American
society in the 1960s. In the scene at an American school there is a girl named Yonah. She was
appointed by her teacher to be the main cheerleader. That's what made his American friends ask
"Why are Asians like him better than us?" His American friends bully him. This shows the
ethnocentrism nature of Americans who feel their race is superior to other races.

But the main point of the film is about martial arts. In America, people give highly value for
karate and don't accept any other martial arts. This can be shown in the scene when an Asian
who is a member of the American military wants to introduce wing-chun kung fu where he
works. But the commander who was very ethnocentrism with America refused kung fu. He also
burn the wooden puppets which the Asian guy used for kung fu training. Until finally the
military comander was defeated by IP Man himself with his Wingchun Kung Fu.

the lesson that we can get from this film is that we have to respect each other's nations. Don't
be arrogant towards other races, maybe we are greater than them, smarter than them, but we both
have advantages and disadvantages. By learning from each other's cultures, of course we will
create a peaceful environment of tolerance.
