1. TITLE

The title in the section 2 is plastic injection moulding by using SOLIDWORK

software.

2. OBJECTIVE

The objective of the study:

 To study the process of injection moulding process.
 To make simulation of the SOLIDWORK software.

3. INTRODUCTION
Injection moulding is a process that inject the molten material into a mould
that used by manufacture to ease the making of any production. It was a new modern
type of process that pass the traditional method to make any plastic product instantly.
It works step by step to produce the perfect output. Using injection moulding, high
producing of products can be produced because it can make a complex and difficult
shape easily. An injection moulding machine, raw plastic material, and a mould are
needed to be used in the injection moulding process. In addition, the injection
moulding have many types of molten procedure such as plastic injection moulding,
the plastic is melted and then injected into the mould, where it cools and solidifies
into the final component.
The plastic injection moulding process need to use some steps to make any
plastic product. Firstly, the product need to be design by using any computer software
such as SOLIDWORK 2021. In this software, the measured parameter and size was
fixed and be a case for the product. It can also make simulation before starts the
process of plastic injection moulding. Then, the molten plastic will inject and cooling
process need to be done to make the product finish faster. Then, the product will be
taken from the mould that have been injected.

4. APPARATUS

a) SOLIDWORK 2021 – to make design and simulation.

b) Plastic injection moulding machine – to make output process.
c) Plastic (PP) – as molten material.
d) Computer/Laptop – run SOLIDWORK software.

5
5. SAFETY AND EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

The procedure started from:

a) Observed of the cardholder and process of plastic moulding process.
b) The designed cardholder being sketch a runner line and 3D runner created.
c) Copy and move the original cardholder to another end of the runner.
d) Gates that connect the runner and cardholder are created and fillet was created
to reduce sharp curve.
e) Before start the simulation, evaluated the finished cardholder by using 1˚ to
confirm the position of the runner, gate and sprue.
f) The simulation was started with the plastic as the molten material.

Figure 5.1 Cardholder Injection process

When using the plastic injection moulding machine:

a) Read all the manual of the machine before use.
b) PP material put into the hopper.
c) Closed the gate properly.
d) Start the machine and body position do not close to the machine.
e) The machine process automatically and the mould injected into the clamping
process and cooling process occurs.
f) The product can be take.
g) Switch of the machine.

Safety:

Safety is very important to all activities especially when using machinery or

any works that include procedure and step. It need to be done to reduce any accident
occurs during the experiment. In this plastic injection moulding process, safety also
important because this process have danger operation that include high pressure and
high temperature with fast process. So, attention need to pay during the process
includes:
 Always wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) before do work.
 Do not close to the machine when the machine in progress.
 Double check all the function of the machine such as emergency button.
 Read all the manual and rules before start the process.
 Always check the gates always close before start the process.
 Always do housekeeping before and after the process.

6. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, based on the experiment that we have been carried out, we can achieve
the objective of the study. We can conclude that the SOLIDWORK programming is a
software that can control as the output the plastic injection moulding. The
SOLIDWORK is a perfect measurement that can be use as a sketching and simulation
process and give output to injection moulding machine. After that, plastic injection
moulding need a suitable material to produce any product. This product are made
from plastic(PP). However, it also have defect such as sink marks after the cooling
process. So, the cooling process need to be done slowly. Finally, the simulation and
the process of plastic injection moulding was successful done in good condition.

7. RECOMMENDATION

This experiment shows that the technology was up to date. However, there are still
many who do not know about this software. This application can be used for all
students and workers because this software has many features. In addition, by using
this software, users can make any product easily and fastly without required more
human energy. It just only high of cost but the quality was very perfect. However,
improvements also need to be made to make this process more secure. Therefore,
more safety aspect needs to be added to make it easier for the software and machine to
be used such as wearing (PPE) during handle the machine. For the SOLIDWORK, the
data to be inserted in the software need to be accurate to reduce the damage product.
So any defect can be reduce immediately. Lastly, the products can be created
according to the specified dimensions.
