Welcome! Congratulations once again on your acceptance into The University of Winnipeg. Now
that you have been admitted, here are some tools and resources that will help support you as a
new student.
WebAdvisor
An official email has been sent to you with a username and temporary password, allowing you access to
WebAdvisor. WebAdvisor is the online system that students access to get information on their student
record. With this one system, you have access to almost everything you need to know! Some of the
functions include:
Viewing tuition charges, awards, payments, and accounts balances
Searching for courses
Checking grades
Printing off personal account statements and receipts
Log in with the temporary password. You will then have a chance to set your own permanent password.

myUWinnipeg
Once you have a WebAdvisor password set, you can log in to myUWinnipeg. The myUWinnipeg portal
allows you to access several important services: your University email account, library account,
University wireless network, online courses and fee statements. Be sure to log in to your University email
account as soon as possible. The University uses this account for all correspondence and
communication. It is very important that you check this account on a regular basis.
Academic Advising
Having a hard time choosing what courses to take? Need some advice? Contact Lee Hong, Academic
Advisor for International Students at l.hong@uwinnipeg.ca. Lee Hong is here to help you before you
arrive in Winnipeg, and after!
Registration
Registration dates will be sent to your University email account through myUWinnipeg prior to the start of
the Fall/Winter and Spring terms. Students register for courses online through WebAdvisor. Course
offerings will be posted in the University Course Calendar prior to the start of each term.
Before you register for courses, you must print and read the online tutorial You First.

Homestay
Try a Canadian Homestay Experience!
Students who choose this option are matched with an English-speaking host family for the duration of
their studies. Living with a local family, couple or single person can be a good way to familiarize yourself
with your new environment. It is also a further opportunity to practice your English language skills and
learn about Canadian life and culture. https://www.uwinnipeg.ca/elp/homestay.html
Health Insurance
Depending on your student type and the length of your studies, you will be covered by different health
insurance plans. To determine your health coverage and amount, please see:

Airport Pick-up
Arriving in Winnipeg and need help getting to your residence? International Student Services offers an
airport pick-up service free of charge to new international students. You will need to book this at least
seven days in advance of your arrival. https://ww2.uwinnipeg.ca/index/intl-airport-reception-application?
Orientation
Orientation for new international students provides important information on student services, study and
work permits, tips for academic success, and academic regulations. We encourage all new international
students to attend and pre-register for Orientation. Students who cannot attend this session due to late
arrival or a change in their start date must inform the International Student Services at iss@uwinnipeg.ca.

Studying in Canada
In order to study in Canada, you will need to apply for a Study Permit and a Temporary Resident Visa
(TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) as soon as you receive your official letter of
acceptance from the University. Please check with Immigration, Refugee and Canadian Citizenship
(IRCC) for more information or contact Ali Raza, Immigration Student Advisor at a.raza@uwinnipeg.ca.
Mentor Program
Are you looking for some help making the transition to a new school or new city? Sign up for the Student
Mentor Program! You will be matched with an experienced student who can help you learn about
University life. You will meet with your mentor in-person, and keep in touch by phone, text or email. The
