Dealing With

Burnout
B E B ET T ER
Understand the causes
• Identify and eliminate sources of burnout so that you can prevent it and won’t have to deal with it

Common sources are:

• Lack of personal motivation (which leads to procrastination)
• External issues (family problems, financial problems, etc)
• Assignment overload (you overachievers)
Course load
Don’t kill yourself with your course load; take subjects you are actually interested in and work with
your counselor to determine a good schedule

7 AP classes combined with 5 clubs and sports is not a good combination (speaking from
experience).
Don’t sacrifice your health
Otherwise, every aspect of your life will suffer. If it means you don 't do your best on an
assignment, that's okay
If you have good reasons many teachers will be sympathetic. Communication is key.
◦ Ask for an extension before the assignment is due, not past the due date

Try to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle parallel to academic work

Take breaks
Have activities (high density fun - stuff like sports or hanging out with friends, not stuff like social
media) scheduled regularly.
During these times, separate yourself completely from your work/school, in order to make sure
they’re effective.
