Introduction___________________________________________________
In the last two decades, there has been a revolutionary development in the enjoyment park sector in
Bangladesh. The establishment and development of such theme park introduced a new era of
entertainment for the people of Khulna also. To keep attached with this experience the idea of theme
park introduced here. In the city there are three amusement parks available with same level of services
for its visitors. The first park is Jahanabad Cantonment, the second one is wonderland in Khalishpur
and the third one is Mujgunni Shishu Park. Mujgunni S.S World Park is being conducted by private
ownership, located at Boyra Police Line, Boyra Outer Bypass Road, Khulna – 9000. It had started its
operation in January, 2007.

Theme park that is affecting both, the country and the world is Fantasy Kingdom, which is a project
of Concord Group. The park is situated on the Dhaka-Asulia highway at a place called Jamgora. It is
established in February, 2002. Concord Entertainment Company brought the Fantasy Kingdom as a
world class Entertainment Complex. It is trying to make Bangladeshi people interested about world
quality entertainment and to spread the new theme of entertainment all over Bangladesh as well as
survive in the market and to serve the people. It can be taken as a standard for establishing or
improving theme parks all over the country.

a) Features that are present in Mujgunni Park

1. Facilities for physical and recreational activities
To make a park active, there must be facilities provided for the people to use them for
physical or recreational activity. It is important there is a range of equipment and facilities
provided that allow a diverse range of people to use the park. The park has 9 working
rides that are suitable for both the children and elders. There are some walking paths also
but they are not in a good condition. There could be a kids zone for the children that
could be divided into two categories like a gaming zone and a water zone. This will be of
more fun for the children if they can play some video games in the gaming zone and some
enjoy some water rides like the water kingdom of the park Fantasy Kingdom. As there is
already natural waterbody in the park it will be more easy and affordable to create some
lake based facilities. Besides, some free of cost enjoyment tools like swing, seesaw,
slipper etc. can be added for the children.

2. Amenities
The provision of amenities such as toilets, water fountains, garbage bins and seating is an
important factor that will contribute to people enjoying their stay in the park. Ensuring the
provision of well-maintained and workable amenities can make the people stay in the
park more comfortable and ensure that they do not leave prematurely. All the amenities in
the park are ill-conditioned. There is no garbage bin inside the park where there should
have been a number of bins in a large area like that.

3. Shading
Shading is another important feature of a park. Shading can be manmade including
gazebos, pergolas or shade cloths and natural involving natural features like trees.
Both type of shading is seen in the park. But some of the manmade shading is broken or
damaged. But there is a lot of scope to use the trees as a source of natural shading.

4. Lighting
Lighting is another important feature of a park. It becomes more of an issue during the
later hours of a day if people chose to use the park at night. Though lighting is provided
in the park, it is in a very poor condition.

b) Features that are not present in Mujgunni Park
1. Accessibility
For a park to be active it is imperative that residents are provided with safe and easy
access routes to walk and cycle to the park. Accessibility is a paramount factor because it
determines whether are a resident will make an effort to travel to the park. There are two
main aspects that help to determine the accessibility to the park and they are safety and
ease of access. In the park, there is clear lack of accessibility. The park is located by the
side of a primary road, which is not suitable for walking. Moreover, the only public
transport that is seen in the road is auto rickshaw.
2. Parking Provisions
If a resident decides to cycle to the park or a resident takes his car or bike, it becomes
necessary to provide suitable parking space for their cycles, bikes, and cars and ensure
these are kept safe while they are participating in physical or recreational activity at the
park. As there is a lack of public transport to the place of the Mujgunni Park, there must
have sufficient parking place at the park. But there was no noticeable parking place.
3. Cleanliness
Parks always need to be cleaned. Being free from litter and rubbish on floors, play
equipment, seating and amenities enhances the aesthetic values of the park and makes it a
much more enjoyable place. The surveyed park greatly lack of cleanliness which disturbs
the beauty and environment of the park.
4. Maintained surfaces
For safety for all users to the park, it is always important to maintain all surfaces that
make up the park. This will ensure that there will be no detrimental impact to the users of
the park and ensure their desire will be active is not hindered by uneven, cracked or
slippery play surfaces. The park does not have a level surface. Moreover, it has a lot of
cracks on the walking paths and some of them are even greatly broken and damaged.

From the physical survey of the park and talking to the authority it is clear that the present condition
of the park is worse than it was before. To improve the quality of the park, it is necessary to provide
more facilities and improve the existing ones. There is a lot of scope for developing the park for more
efficient uses and make it comfortable for people of all age groups.
