CONTINENTAL 80’S / COMMERCIAL RUNNERS / I-5923

CONTINENTAL 80’S
The plan of how we built the range was to have the off white ‘authentic’
version sitting in top fashion, complete with archive inspired silver details
and navy/red webbing. Below at foundation level are the commercial triple
white and triple black executions.

Two months later a bright pastel triple execution provided a fresh but
simple update, which maintained the iconic look.

The pink shoe became Originals most engaged sneaker post in instagram
history.
COMMERCIAL RUNNERS
I was responsible for working on several commercial franchises. This
included Swift, XPLR, N-5923 and New York.

The goal every season is to update the commerical sneakers with wearable
and affordable yet fresh execution updates.

For the Swift shoe I added the gradient embroidery to create something
new but still maintaining the simple look.
I-5923
One of the first commercial ranges that I helped built was the I-5923. The
shoe was build on this idea that past meets the future. The 70’s upper sits
the modern boost tooling.

Usually adidas shoes are signed off with gold. So I felt that adding Copper
details gave the shoe the traditional metallic feeling but with a subtle twist.

I continued to work on this shoe for several season, with a strong focus on
our archive.

POKEMON
The Climacool made a return a few years ago and as the shoe was originally
designed in the 2000s, I had the idea to collaborate with Pokémon, which
was a relevant TV series at the time, to produce a limited and collectable
Pikachu shoe.

Dressed in triple yellow and Poké ball details, this could have evolved, like
Pokémon do, into a Climacool 2 and beyond.

I also created a sample complete with Pokéball box.

NIGHT JOGGER
I presented the idea of reflective detailing on an I-5923

Upon research, I discovered that in 1976 the Night Jogger was adidas’s first
reflective shoe. My marketing counter and I took a closer look at the shoe
in the archieve and I decided that I would use the colours and reflective
stripes to tell the story. using GB Light swatches, glue and paint, I present-
ed a phiysical sample.
CITY SERIES
For SS19 Dream Phase I decided to work on a new version of city series.
Working closely with my marketing collegues we decided to work on
smaller cities, as apposed to the more obvious key cities.

I kept a simple formular of matching stripes and heel tab with gum
outsoles. The colours were aimed to reflect aspects of the city, which alone
without knowledge of the city, would still create colourways that could
become as iconic as the cities series from the past.

I felt that instagram pages were a socially relevant platform to display the
designs and #tags allowed for deeper story telling.
collAGe dropout
A series of concept moodboards, in which the smaller images create one
large overall image, that reflects the mood and vibe of the shoe.

This page was for the continental 80’s and the next page was for Serbakov,
in which the theme was about blending in, but standing out.
MATERIAL MAP
For several seasons, we have used brightly coloured material maps to
easily communicate to the factory what material to use.

I have turned these material maps into colour cads to create an oddity style
colourway, complete with an ‘informative’ graphic on the sockliner.

I used this same blocking logic to create the inverted colour version.

This concept could also be used to tell a ‘sustainable’ story, in which our
materials and infomation could be made visable to the consumer.
TOKYO 2020
As part of Dream Day for SS20, I looked at creating a story for a special
TOKYO 2020 olympic pack.

The games was first in Tokyo in 1964 , so I looked into the adidas spikes
that were used and how they had aged over time, aswell as what was
happening from a cultural point of view during the 60’s.

The concept focussed on the games being the first to be broadcast live in
colour. I created a video to share this idea, which included a satelitte
cartoon animation.
未来

SOUNDS OF COLOUR
This project looked at how shoes could be colored in using inspiration from
sound.

I captured sounds from my weekend and used the sound waves as a way of
interpreting data in a visual form to influence colour proportion, style,
usage and choices.
GLITCH WORKSHOP
In 2018 I organized a workshop for my team to help take part in a football
glitch project. Every BU took part, with the idea of manipulating the glitch
boot.

The theme of our entry was to take iconic originals elements and stick
them to the shoe. Elements of classic Jeremy Scott vibes crept in and both
boots were tied together with a splatter sockliner.
SWATCH CITY
Back when I first started at adidas, we only used colour rings, which I felt
were not the easiest way to display the colours. I build the first colour
board for SS17, which proved to be a very useful tool for both design and
marketing.

Since then I have created a new board every season, with each season an
improved layout and presentation style. The original board used pins, this
changed to velcro and ultimatly resulted in magnets. I extended Swatch
City with the majorconstruction of 3 tall rotating towers with colours split
into alphabetical order. As Major of Swatch City this is something I took alot
of pride in.
MKR LAB
Since the opening of the makerlab I decided it would be a good chance to
bring my CADS to life.

Physically painted shoes have been a good sell in tool for my ideas.
SPEED CHAMP
One of my new responsabilities was to manage the PR complient shoes
within the range. This involved weekly meetings with the cross functional
team, working with excel sheets, sourcing counter parts and materials.
Several ideas that I implemented were things such as Orange PR logo on
the CAD and seasonal material logo on the material map.

I organised PR focused workshops and provided my team with tutorial CLICK CLICK
videos on how to fulfill the PR requirements. FOR FOR
VIDEO VIDEO
I very happy with the performance of the PR Team, as we took the (material) (the cad)
complient percentage up to 98,5% success rate.
