Texas Instruments or TI is one of the biggest electronics firms on the globe. It has the highest
share in Analog IC's with a portfolio of about 45000 products. TI also has Digital domain but
in this post we will be majorly focusing on Analog domain only. The work differs for
undergrad(mostly Testing, Verification) and for masters(mostly Device Physics, Designing,
Layout). so if you are passionate about Analog or subject like Microelectronics, Analog Digital
VLSI design, Analog Electronics, Electronic Devices, TI is a place for you to work. About the
work culture, It is simply awesome. Look at the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM494r9BihA
I was lucky enough that I got a chance to interact with the most intelligent minds at texas
instruments across the globe. After completing my internship for six months and taking up
the job as an Analog Engineer at Texas Instrument, Bangalore, I thought of sharing my views
on the same

Pattern:
TI has a fixed procedure for the job as well as for internship.
Round 1: Online test
It consists of 20 aptitude question in 20 min (which are bit easy if you are preparing for CAT)
and 20 technical questions in 30 min.
Aptitude question can be done by a little practice. They generally ask on logical reasoning
and quant. (Don't remember much though)
Aptitude question can be practiced from:
http://www.indiabix.com/aptitude/questions-and-answers/
practice one problem set from each of the categories.

Technical questions are majorly asked from bode plot, RC circuits (see below), simple op-
amps configurations, LP and HP filter (frequency analysis), a bit of a pole-zero (control
system) and the question on the configuration of Common Source/emitter, Common
gate/base, common drain/collector.
It would be easy as you will be preparing for the interview.

P.S.: online test and CGPA cutoff of 7 are the criteria for filtering the students. You will be
filtered from the pool. Generally, 10% of the people are called for the interview.

Round 2:
How to prepare for the technical interview for an internship in TI?

Focus on the following topics

basics of BJT, MOS, op-amps
Resistor network (basics JEE mains level questions)
RC circuits (intuition method) -- TI focuses more on how the circuit will behave if we give a
step response to the circuit, rather than their mathematical solution.

Sometimes they do ask questions on Digital Design, Signal and System and Control Systems

but go through these courses only when you are thorough with RC circuits and MOS circuits.
Then the biggest challenge is resource,  where to study from?
Look at the following links/resources:
Electrical and Magnetic Circuits -> IIT-Madras Course by Nagendra Krishnapura (complete
the course for RC circuits)
http://www.ee.iitm.ac.in/videolectures/doku.php?id=ec1010_2014nk:start
Question from Ch3 of Fundamentals of electrical engineering by Bobrow. (Resistor network,
RC, RLC circuits)
Ch2 of Analog Electronics by LK Maheshwari.
For Signal and systems and control system use good online resources.
In Signal and system focus on Fourier transform, Fourier series, Z-transform etc just the
basics. For control system: the block level analysis of parallel paths, feedback, pole zero,
nyquist criteria for stability etc.

Remember, Smile a lot. They are looking for a person who is good with concepts as well as
who is cheerful. Please look at the following video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Me4q5h2kPg
Please Note: No hi-fi internships or research papers needed because TI has the coolest policy.
The person who takes the interview generally doesn't look at your resume. They are
interested more in your concepts and not your internships or research papers.
How to prepare for the technical interview for the job?

Technical round are started with a small introduction and they jump directly to Low pass filter
or RC circuit, time and frequency analysis. and keep on adding the components trying to
make it complicated. They love step response and only interested in the output (step
response is drawn along with the output).
Questions on opamps and pole-zero concept.
Stability, feedback, PLL, differential amplifiers and current mirrors.
MOS characteristics and nonlinear effects (short channel, leakage current, latch-up... etc) and
how can we overcome them.
On the higher side: Design of 2 a two stage op amp or when to use a cross-coupled
differential amplifier, how to bias, increase or decrease gain.

Many a time it depends on the team who is taking the interview. sometimes they ask
questions on topics that are least expected like BJTs, Power electronics, digital design and
microprocessor, robotics (embedded) and even VLSI(adders, Elmore delay model). But even if
you are not very clear with these concepts that's fine. But build a strong foundation for
MOSFET and its concepts.

In addition, to the above-mentioned resources also look for the following:

Analog IC Design by Nagendra or Dr. Shanti Pavan
http://www.ee.iitm.ac.in/videolectures/doku.php?id=ee5320_2016:start
Analysis and Design of Analog Integrated circuit, 4th edition Gray Meyer -- (complete book
or at least till Ch 9) --> till ch 9 is minimum
Design of Analog Integrated Circuits by Razavi till ch 8 (at least)
They look if you are good with basics. Try to analyze the problem with an open mind and
don't jump into mathematics and big equations. Be good with the explanation of the
concepts and its application.

Round 3(optional): Sometimes they go for another technical round and ask some more
technical question (above preparation would be enough) and some puzzles. To prepare for
puzzles google the most common puzzles being asked in the interview. link:
http://puzzlersworld.com/puzzles/interview-puzzles/
Round 4: Human Resource -HR interview(General question) about yourself, why not MS? Why
TI? Why engineering? What are your strengths and weakness?

You are almost selected if you have reached till HR round unless you screw up big time.

Start preparing for TI from your third year and you will get through.
Wish you all the best :) and I hope these points will help you succeed in today's cut-throat
competition.

Please note: The above-mentioned points are my personal views that I felt are required, to
clear Analog Interview that I have gathered from BITS Pilani seniors(employees), my friends
and from my own experience.
