Experiment No: 8

Experiment Name: Measurement of viscosity using Rheometer

I. AIM: To determine the viscosity of ( sample name )

II. Procedure:
Steps for doing the analysis:

1. Switch on the compressor and shift the compressor valve on left side.
2. Turn on the water bath.
3. Thereafter, turn on the computer.
4. Finally switch on the rheometer.
5. The activities to be performed in computer
(i) Go to job manager.
(ii) View (element consider).
(iii) File (new job-----create new).
(iv) Choose sensor and thermo controller (Z41 & DC 50).
(v) Drag the lift control (job editor).
(vi) Lift control (right click).
(vii) Edit.
(a) Select zero point and promote message.
(b) After set zero then deselect zero point.
(c) Select go to measurement and press ok.
(viii) Drag CS/CR/CD (Right click and edit).
• CS (Controlled stress)
• CR (Controlled rate)
• CD (Controlled deformation)
6. Set temperature, rotation and time (duration).
7. Run the experiment and measure the viscosity at different angular velocity.
8. After finishing the job save the data and press OK.
9. Go to lift control select move lift apart and select move lift apart.
10. Unselect go to measurement and press OK.
11. Delete.
12. Turn off the compressor and shift the valve in middle position.
13. Paste the data in Microsoft excel sheet and take average value of viscosity data.

III. Results and Analysis

a. Instrument name (make and model) :
b. Sample name :
c. Sample amount :
d. Temperature :

Viscosity ƒ [Pas] ƒ [Pas] ƒ [Pas] ƒ [Pas]

Angular velocity
(1/sec)

Average Viscosity

The viscosity of ( sample name) is ____________________ Pa s. at ___________0C

IV. Precautions to be taken
1. Before run the machine check compressor power is turned on.
2. Check the geometry fit properly.
3. Temperature should not exceed 50⁰C.
