Release Notes for Firmware 1.04.17

These release notes provide information on the WD My Passport Wireless


Pro and Wireless SSD

Information on the firmware is provided below:

Important:
Before updating to the latest firmware, it is recommended that you’ve installed the most recent
updates and service pack on your computer.
• For Windows®, go to the Start menu and select Windows Update
• For Mac®, go to the Apple® menu and select Software Update

Firmware Version 1.04.17

New Features:
• Added support for My Passport Wireless SSD
• Added RAW image preview support
o Manual database rebuild is required after firmware upgrade
o See knowledge base article 20684 for compatible RAW image formats
• Added support for “Copy All” for SD/USB storage import; removed “Move” function
• Changed SD/USB storage import folder format with additional timestamp
(ISO8601)

• Resolved Wi-Fi instability issue with Wi-Fi Inactivity Disable set to off by default

Firmware Version 1.01.11

Resolved Issues:

• Resolved issue of unable to mount some SD cards, and cards that are formatted
OS X Extended
• Resolved issue of some iOS devices unable to connect to the 5 GHz network with
default password
• Resolved issue of some high speed SD cards that may cause the device to enter
recovery mode with all LED blinking
• Improved device suspend and shutdown to prevent file system error
• Added file system check at boot up and alert message in web dashboard if file
system error is detected
• Added ability in web dashboard to reset Plex Media Server database

Known Issues:
• High capacity SD cards (32GB+) formatted as exFAT by some cameras may create
duplicate entries when a backup is performed
• Under certain conditions, the My Passport Wireless Pro may fail to properly resume
from suspend mode. Workaround: Reboot the My Passport Wireless Pro
• SD cards formatted by Samsung NX200 and Blackmagic Pocket Camera will not be
properly detected. Workaround: Format the SD card in a Windows or Mac with
FAT32 or exFAT file system before using with the camera

Firmware Version 1.01.08

Resolved Issues:

• Resolved issue of unable to start SD card backup when the card is formatted by
some cameras which do not assign UUID during the format process

Installing the Firmware Update

Updating the firmware enables you to take advantage of improvements to the operation and
performance of your WD My Passport Wireless Pro.

Important: Make sure the AC power adapter remains connected during


the firmware update, or the battery is above 50% (3 solid battery LED).

To update the firmware: Automated


** Must connect the My Passport Wireless Pro to a Wi-Fi connection with internet access

• Connect computer to the My Passport Wireless Pro Wi-Fi network


• Using a web browser, open the My Passport Wireless Pro dashboard (default URL is
http://mypassport for PC and http://mypassport.local for Mac)
• Go to Firmware Tab
• Under the section Auto Update.
• You will see a pop up confirming to upgrade your firmware, click Ok.

To update the firmware: My Cloud App (Mobile)


** Must connect the My Passport Wireless Pro to a Wi-Fi connection with internet access

• Connect mobile device to the My Passport Wireless Pro Wi-Fi network


• From the App, go to the My Passport Wireless Pro Settings
• Select “More” in the upper corner
• Select Firmware
• Update the Firmware if an update is available.

To update the firmware: Manual

• Download the firmware to your desktop from support.wdc.com


• Unzip the file and you will find the actual firmware in this format:
MyPassportWirelessGen2_x.bin
• Save this to your desktop
• Connect to the My Passport Wireless Pro Wi-Fi network
• Open the My Passport Wireless Pro Dashboard UI (default URL is http://mypassport for PC
and http://mypassport.local for Mac)
• Go to Firmware Tab
• Under the section Manual Update, click the Update From File button and a window will open
• Browse to where you saved the MyPassportWirelessGen2_x.bin file and select it.
• You will see a pop up confirming to upgrade your firmware, click Ok.

Important product update notes:


1. Do not interrupt the firmware upgrade process. Doing so may cause the device to
malfunction or render it unable to boot.
2. If you are using the manual update method, do not rename the firmware file.
Doing so will cause the manual update to fail.
