Reinforced polyster plastomeric polymer-bitumen
water-proofing membrane
DESCRIPTION
Argo P is a plastomeric polymer
bitumen waterproofing membrane
reinforced with non-woven polyester
fabric which is rot proof, resistant to
thermal ageing and is characterised by
high mechanical resistance, excellent
elongation at break and resistant to
puncture and perforation. The
compound contains distilled bitumen
and plastomers which give the
membrane very good resistance to
ageing and excellent flexibility.
Argo P is produced with a lower face
covered by a sacrificial polyethylene
film called FLAMINA which is
embossed both to encourage
retraction of the film during torching
and to signal the correct fusion point.
The embossing also diffuses water
vapour. It is the only membrane on the
market to have the upper face treated
with serigraphic talc which enables
easy unrolling at the application stage
and presents a suitable surface for the
application of aluminium paints or
protective acrylic water-based paint.
USES
As a result of the good mechanical
resistance and elongation qualities,
Argo P is suitable for use in both
domestic and industrial waterproofing.
The applications include:
• Flat, sloping and pitched roofs,
reinforced cast concrete decks,
prefabricated concrete decks, metal
and timber decks, terraces,
foundations, under slating and tiling,
underground pipes with or without
thermal insulation.
• It is particularly suitable for use on
renovation projects.
APPLICATION
The application of the membrane is by
torch bonding using a suitable propane

gas torch. Other tools include a knife
and a trowel with a rounded end.
Depending on the structure and the
specification, the membrane may be
fully bonded, or mechanically fixed.
When deciding on the system to use
refer to Index ‘Technical Specification’
leaflets and ‘Guide to Application of
Index Membranes. The membrane is
applied with the surface protected by
the Flamina facing towards the surface
on which it will be laid.
During application the Flamina will
melt while unrolling the sheet. All
membranes must be laid to allow side
laps of 100 mm and end laps of
150 mm. Bonding is always carried
out using a torch.
Embossing
The embossing on the under side of
the membrane, and covered by a
polyethylene film, allows for fast and
safe laying. Under flame, it becomes
black and smooth and this indicates
the right melting point.
The embossing also allows good
vapour diffusion in partial bonded and
loose laid application and avoids the
problem of blisters and bulges.
Talc treatment
The talc treatment on the upper side is
carried out using a method which
evenly spreads the talc in a special
pattern avoiding excess talc or missed
areas. This method allows a quick
unrolling of the roll and a surface
which is pleasant to the eye.
Mineral self protection
Slate granules of various colours are
hot applied to the weathering surface
of the membrane.
The mineral surface will protect the
membrane from the ageing effects of
ultra violet rays.
