Weekly Journal - Capstone Project

Progress I have made during this past week:

(Don’t forget to provide a breakdown of time spent on each item listed)
● I found and watched several Youtube videos that provide tips for understanding faster-paced
signing - 50 minutes
● I contacted my teacher, and began brainstorming ideas as well as creating a detailed plan for
my final presentation - 1 hour
● I continued to learn ASL through the official online lessons (I completed 3 lessons in total) - 4
hours

What I need to move forward with my Capstone (time, space, materials, contacts):
● I will need to spend some more time creating a detailed plan for my final presentation
● I will need to begin putting together my final presentation (creating a poster board/digital
presentation, etc.)
● I will have to visit my community connection and practice establishing and maintaining a
conversation in ASL
● Throughout the upcoming week, I will have to spend 5-7 hours to continue to complete my
ASL lessons

Obstacles I have encountered and how I’ve moved forward:

● This week, I had a pretty busy schedule with volunteering and work, and so I was unable to
spend 60 minutes each day working on my Capstone Project
○ Although I was not able to work on the project every day, I did manage to complete a
few lessons, watch ASL Youtube videos, and begin planning my final presentation
■ But now, I am a little behind on my project in terms of planning for the final
presentation and completing my lessons
● Moving forward, I want to make sure that I take these things into account when I am planning
for the week
○ This will prevent tasks from piling up at the end of the week
○ Also, this will allow me to organize my time efficiently so that I am still able to spend
some time each day on my project

Obstacles I can foresee in my next steps:

● Due to things not going as planned this week, I will have some catching up to do next week
○ Example: This week, I was not able to complete creating a detailed plan for my final
presentation, and so now this will just be added to my tasks for next week
○ Throughout next week, I will just have to spend some extra time on my Capstone
project so that I can get back on track
■ I believe that if I use my time wisely and schedule things efficiently, I will be
able to achieve all of my tasks

The skills I’ve used and what I’ve learned:

● This week, I learned the importance of perseverance
○ I learned that there’s always going to be difficult days and weeks, but it’s so important
that we don’t let those things put us into a mindset of sadness and gloom
○ I found that I just need to learn my lesson, move forward, and stay determined to
continue to work hard
■ Next week, I am going to organize my time and work very hard on my project
so that I can get back on track
My goals and deadlines for next week:
● Continue to complete my ASL lessons
● Complete creating a detailed plan for my final presentation
● Start putting together my final presentation (e.g. get started on a digital presentation)
● Visit my community connection and practice establishing and maintaining a conversation in
ASL
● Continue to create schedules, use my planner, and avoid distractions to ensure that I
efficiently organize and use my time

My evidence of progress. This can include but is not limited to: diagrams, screenshots,
photos, videos, rough drafts, schedules, meeting notes, mind maps, etc.
