POSING TIPS FOR TEENS
1. GIVE DIRECTION
Generally, teens and tweens love having their photo
taken. However, at the same time, the closer kids
move into the tween and teen years the more self-
conscious they become. Giving them direction and
assuring them how great they look will relax them.
Start with some simple posing instructions like,
“put your hands in your pockets and kick out your
hip” or “turn your body away from me and look
back over your shoulder”. Model the poses for
them so they can copy you. Once they start to
relax, posing should begin flowing more naturally.
2. BE FRIENDLY
This really needs no explanation. However, it is
especially important with teens and tweens. Being
friendly puts them at ease and helps them to
enjoy the experience. Being friendly will also draw
natural, easy expressions and eye contact.

3. SHOW PERSONALITY
This is such a perfect age to show personality in
photos. Whether you are photographing a high
school senior or other ages for portraits, allow their
personality to show through their expressions and
include the occasional prop to show off what they
love.
4. BOYS AND GIRLS
Posing boys and girls will be very different at this
age. Boys need to look masculine and girls need to
look feminine. Photographing boys square to the
camera or with a low camera angle will help them
look strong and sure. Girls look best when at a
slight angle to the camera and with their weight
transferred to one foot or their hip kicked out. As
you are photographing, use these tips to bring out
the best in your subjects.
