Write an essay for each topic on your stand on the conflicting views of historians.
a. Site of the First mass
It is hard to know where the first mass is given that it happened over hundreds of years ago. Even with the
scientific equipment’s help would render useless for any evidences would have already been gone. The
probable evidences that was left would be the manuscripts which states that it was in the Limasawa while
others opinion said it was in Masao. This has been a debate given that we are a Christian country, the
point is that whether it was in Masao or Limasawa the truth was that the First Mass happened in our
country and it led into the introduction of Catholic Church which in my own opinion prove to be
irrelevant since I’m a Seventh Day Adventist.

b. Cavity mutiny
We would never forget the cruelty and inequality we felt when we are in the graces of Spaniards
even when it happened hundreds of years ago. If the mutiny happened in our time then we would
have said that the mutiny was wrong and it was never just to kill people but that was not the case
in the Cavity mutiny. They were in desperate times in need of desperate measures, which indeed
proved useful in wakening the oppressed hearts of Filipinos which result in revolution years
later. Yes, it was never right to kill people but maybe in their time it was the optimum solution in
their problems after all they don’t have the opportunity to raise their voice or even if they had
there would be no one to help them other than their fellowmen.

c. Retraction of Rizal
In my own opinion I can say that there was no retraction letter from Rizal. There are evidences
that proved that Rizal retracted, there are also evidences that he didn’t so which one is the truth.
Since we can’t prove what is true then let’s look at the situation, the situation is that Rizal
revolted to the Spaniards and the Church so if what they said that before he died he retracted
what he said about the church then it would be like saying he retracted what he said about the
revolution which wouldn’t make sense, after all the sufferings Filipino have, deeply connected to
the church. My point is that it was probably a lie when they said Rizal retracted and that the
evidences are fake. The only people that would gain out of this was the church because if Rizal
hadn’t retracted what he said about the church, the people would lost their faith in the church
since Rizal for them is a hero. It is just one of the schemes of the Catholic Church to retain their
control in our country.
d. Cry of Balintawak or Pugadlawin
What happened was very memorable it showcase the commerandee that happened in Balintawak and
Pugadlawin. It does not matter whether it was in balintawak or Pugadlawin. The point was that through
the revolution both led in these places resulted the freedom of Filipinos from the shackles of oppression.
We should not forget the people who sacrifices their lives to achieved freedom, these people must always
be in our hearts and minds as courageous heroes and fellowmen.

Module 4
Social, political, economic and cultural issues in Philippine History

a. Agrarian reform policies

What I can say about our current situation today was that we are heavily influenced by those who
colonized our country not only in culture but also in our government. We easily accept and apply
the ideas of others in our policies especially their culture. I guess we are the most flexible
country in the whole world because of how we easily received the laws and decisions of other
countries.
But for me as a nation we heavily rely on other nations about our problems and decisions like the
Spratly islands, we cannot defend our own property without asking for help from others, so much
for being called “independent country” when we still asked help from those who colonized us.

b. The Philippine Constitution

The constitution helps us in providing order in law in our country, the thing is not all Filipino
knows about the constitution there are a lot of fights and misunderstanding because of ignorance,
as they said ‘ignorance excuses no one’. I realized that most of the Filipinos are ignorant of the
law which is why lawyers are so expensive to pay in the Philippines, if only many people know
even just our Philippine constitution then they can make sound judgment on their own without
going to court.

c. Taxation
For the taxation, what I can say was that the new taxation recently really has inconvenience a lot
of people especially when we are in a pandemic, there are less people going out to the mall to
shop things and more people shopping online, because of that there are a lot of emerging online
businesses which I think the government saw as a new profit venture which they decided to add
tax to those online sellers and also add tax to their products. This is still not mandated but when
it is and we are still in pandemic then it would surely affect online businesses.
d. Filipino Cultural Heritage
Even though we are colonized and were heavily influence by other cultures we still kept and
preserve the cultures which makes us Filipinos we also supported the artists in our country. OPM
are still being supported by our fellow Filipinos and we also have Filipinos artist who are known
worldwide. Filipinos are also well known in our hospitality towards others, it is one of the
reasons why Philippines has a lot of tourist from all around the word because of how flexible and
hospitable Filipino people are.

e. Filipino-American Relations
Our relationship with the Americans other than being influence in our culture and political
decisions, our relationship with them is still the same. Our relationship with them helps us in our
recent feud with China since we are like a subsidiary country in Americana whether we like it or
not. We still rely on them in terms of technology, army, influence etc.

f. Government Peace treaties with Muslim Filipinos

We have very deep history about wars between the government and Muslims throughout the
years, and what I realized and observed is that the relationship between them these years has
been good, especially since the Muslim has been approved to be given jurisdiction (MNLF) in
terms of their traditions and laws. I hope that it would continue to prosper as they both have
Filipino blood running through their veins.

g. Institutional History of schools, corporations, industries, religious groups, and the like
As years past by a lot of schools has been built in our country also businesses and corporations.
Technologies advanced and those the need of people, a new business or corporation which
invested in our country found out the need of a faster internet connection. This is called DITO
which was already approved and registered by SEC, the corporation has already been selling
their shares last year and because of the pandemic their progress has been halted. Our country is
progressing everyday but of course it is due to the schools, industries, corporations etc. in the
past which put us in our spot today.
