Activity 2: The Cultural Differences between the East and West

INSTRUCTION: Read the short article written by Annalisa Merelli entitled, “The cultural differences
between East and West, according to one artist.” Study each pictorial representation of each cultural
behavior/aspect and discuss which of the two illustrations for each category represents that of the
Philippines. Give examples to illustrate your point if necessary.

CATEGORY DISCUSSION
Dealing with problems I think west is representing the Philippines when it comes to dealing with
problems, they exacerbating the problem unlike the illustration of east they
easily deal with the problems because they already know how the easy way to
solve the problem.

The boss When it comes to the boss, west is representing Philippine because we all know
that here in our country all the boss feel that they are the only ones who are right
and uplifting everyone, doesn’t accept the opinion of others.

Expressing opinion For me, east is representing Philippines when it comes to expressing their
opinion, they say their opinion direct to the point. Telling the truth- When it
comes to telling the truth, west represent Philippines an example of this is
government management we all know our country have a higher corruption
also.

Personal branding East represents Philippine when it comes to personal branding, for me
Philippine has the best personal branding for example are some set of skills,
talents and everything that makes them unique.
