Maruti Suzuki

The Company is an Indian publicly listed automaker headquartered in New Delhi, formerly
known as Maruti Udyog Limited. It was founded in February, 1981, as a joint venture
between the Government of India and Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, through the efforts
of V. Krishnamurthy. As of May 2007, through the Ministry of Disinvestment, the
Government of India sold its entire stake to Indian financial institutions and no longer has
any stake in Maruti Udyog. At present, it has a market share in the Indian passenger car
market of 53 percent. It is a 56.21 percent owned subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, a
Japanese car and motorcycle manufacturer.

Business area of the company

The company is involved in the manufacturing and selling of passenger vehicles in India.
Maruti Suzuki today has a huge portfolio of many car models with large numbers of
variations, making a small start with the iconic Maruti 800 car. It is the first company to
mass-produce and sell more than a million vehicles in India. The company built its 15
millionth vehicle in India, a Swift Dzire, in May 2015. The model range of Maruti Suzuki
extends from entry-level small cars such as the Alto 800, Alto K10 and the Ciaz luxury
sedan. Other operations include facilitation of the management of the pre-owned car sales
fleet and car financing. The company has manufacturing facilities in Gurgaon, spread over
300 acres, and Manesar in Haryana, spread over 600 acres. Three fully integrated plants are
housed within the facility in Gurgaon. While the three plants have a total installed capacity of
350,000 vehicles per year, several productivity improvements or Kaizens shop floor have
allowed the company to produce nearly 700,000 vehicles per year at the Gurgaon facilities.
Over 150 robots are equipped in the facility, of which 71 have been built in-house.
