The Company is an Indian publicly listed automaker headquartered in New Delhi, formerly
known as Maruti Udyog Limited. It was founded in February, 1981, as a joint venture
between the Government of India and Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, through the efforts
of V. Krishnamurthy. As of May 2007, through the Ministry of Disinvestment, the
Government of India sold its entire stake to Indian financial institutions and no longer has
any stake in Maruti Udyog. At present, it has a market share in the Indian passenger car
market of 53 percent. It is a 56.21 percent owned subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, a
Japanese car and motorcycle manufacturer.
Experiences fuelled by technology, forward thinking, and a commitment to bring the very
best to Indian highways. The business has been spearheading a revolution of change since the
day the iconic Maruti 800 was launched in 1983. Turning the need for driving of an entire
country into its passion for driving. With each new generation of Indians, however, tastes and
demands continue to evolve. Maruti Suzuki did not look at this as a challenge, but as an
inspiration to go beyond conventional car-making boundaries. This company's stated aim was
to provide technological know-how for the "fully indigenous motor car" design, manufacture
and assembly. Infusing design and technology is one such step that it has taken to make its
cars seamlessly meet the demands of the modern era. Today, Maruti Suzuki has its eyes
firmly set on tomorrow's possibilities and everyone is welcomed on this journey.
