LAB 3: THREE POINT LINKAGES AND IMPLEMENTS

INTRODUCTION

Three-point lingkages, also known as a three-point connection is typically referred to as a

tractor connector for ploughs and other equipment. It consists of a variety of parts, including
the hydraulic mechanism of the tractor, f asteners, lifting arms and stabilisers.

APPARATUS

Based on the observation from video link:

PROCEDURE

1. Three-point linkages parts and the operation of principle

In the ties there are hitch lifting arms. The hydraulic system is regulated. The role is to
rise, decrease and tilt the arm. The upper middle arm is the next. Often known as the
top connection. The tractor's hydraulic system is mobile but doesn't drive. The arm's
on the sleeve. Each hitch has holes to connect to the equipme nt. The unit has posts
which match the holes.

Figure 1: The picture of three-point linkages

• Upper link - Basic component of hitch system. Connects implement to tractor.
Transfers hitching forces of tractor to implement and of implement to tractor
• Lateral limiters - Limits the travel of implement in horizontal plane thereby inhibits the
horizontal sway.
• Lift link - Lifts the implements and supports the implement in transport position. It
provides lateral stability and lateral levelling to the implement.
• Lift arm - It provides lateral stability. It lifts implement by giving needed force and motion
to lift link and supports implement in transport position.
• Rocking arm - It connects cylinder and rockshaft. It converts linear motion of cylinder
into rotation.
• Rockshaft - It transmits the rotating motion of rocking arm to lift arm.
• Cylinder - It is source of power for lifting implement. It gives linear motion to rocking
arm.

2. How to adjust and attach implements on tractor

By using three-point links, an instrument may be connected to a tractor. To be properly
secured, the tool must be connected to the lifting arms and top connection.

a. Align the end of the lift arms with the implement pins.
b. Connect and secure the lift arms and top link to the implement.
c. Adjust the stabilizers, lift arm angle, and top link length.
d. Connect PTO shaft (if necessary).

3. Different type of implements available and their usage

• Irrigation Machinery - It includes central pivot irrigation systems and pump units. It
helps in the watering of crops at appropriate levels.
• Soil Cultivation Implements – Used to plough the soil and prepare it for cultivation.
• Planting Machines - These are used to plant the seeds and saplings over a large
land area after the cultivation of soil. Can be achieved by using broadcast seeders,
precision drills, air seeder, seed drills, and transplanting equipment
• Harvesting Implements - Used to harvest the matured crops.
DISCUSSION

The common mistakes occur during mounting the implements on tractor and how to
overcome it.

• Switching between two lower arms.

• Slipping and falling while mounting and dismounting
• Being struck by flying objects, broken parts, or hydraulic fluid

How to overcome:

▪ Be Properly Trained
A person who does not know how to operate a tractor safely in potentially hazardous
situations can be injured during mounting the implement.
▪ Be Familiar With Operator's Manual
The process prepared in the operator's manual is read and followed. If we know about
the working properties of the tractor, it creates trust when the tractor is powered under
adverse situations when mounting the device. The tractor driver should be shown how
the unit can be shut down or the PTO removed during an emergency.

QUESTION

1. What is the function of implements in agriculture?

The purposes of equipping farm tractor with agricultural implements are for
ploughing, tilling, disking, harrowing, planting, harvesting, transporting and similar
tasks.

2. Explain the factors you should consider while choosing an implement

a. Travel Speed of a Good Match

The instruments can be of the same proportions as the tractor. For starters, a
tractor should be in a position to pull the unit in 3 to 8 miles per hour. The tractor
is actually too big for the implement as a tractor can comfortably drive an
instrument faster than around 8 MPH. In comparison, the tractor is potentially
too small for the instrument if the tractor can't drive the device more than 3 MPH.
b. Tractor Size and Efficiency
When using small tractors to pull small implements or to do small jobs, it
could be more economical and fuel efficient than using large tractors t o pull
small implements.

3. What happen if the implements are not cleaned after each usage?
When mixed on machines with grass and oils, gravel, pollen and seed residue can be
corrosive. Rain can be dangerous, too. You should wash equipment after each use. It
is advised. The tool could rust very easily, for example. Clean removal of a computer
helps to maintain the unit.
