Who am I as a person and as a Teacher?

Becoming an Educator, especially in recent years has been considered one of the most demanding yet
rewarding professions in the work force today. Teaching, with its benefits and intellectual motives has
risen to become one of the most sought after jobs in society. But even after taking such rewards into
consideration, one might want to analyze how time consuming and emotionally draining teaching young
people may turn to be.

I come to education later in life and with a passion. I did not expect that I would have a second
career. From the very start of my college days I really don’t want to become a teacher so graduated with
the Course of Bachelor in Business Administration. I been working for many years in a private company
and time pass I realized that teaching profession is a very respectful and influential profession, and I
asked myself what if I followed my parents wish that they wanted me to became a Teacher until one day
during our staff meeting I’ve meet someone and told me that her former assistant take a units in
Education and she got pass the board exam and belong to Deped Family.That’s story inspired me to
continue my parents wish.

I believe that teaching is the most important profession in the world because without a teacher no one can
be great doctor, lawyer a pilot and so on. Teaching Profession should practice what it preaches by helping
young people to reach their goals.

As a teacher, a mother and a human being I have many philosophies in life that I considered in my daily
life, but among those philosophies I admire most is philosophy from Aristotle, According to him,
“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all. I always consider this
quotation in my daily life as a teacher because being a teacher required more patient and understanding, I
do believed that as a teacher you have a big heart to your profession. As a teacher I have a lot of
experiences that required me to extend my help financially and morally to my students.
I have been a teacher for more than four years in various ways. I have a love of learning. Sharing that
learning is part of the fun. I never imagined that I would, but I love the students, as I was said earlier I’m
not an Education graduate but when I was in the field I learned to love teaching, I found happiness in
teaching. I love their innocence and their simple joys and their fresh eyes as they look at the world. I love
the challenge of communicating ideas and skills. I love the idea of leading a team of learners toward a
goal of demonstrated mastery. I love the idea of giving these children a set of skills and an outlook that
will hold them, solid, brave, and capable, as they move through the balance of their academic career and
through life.

I am currently teaching Araling Panlipunan for grade 7 and grade 9 at Junior High School in a far-flung
areas of Quezon Province. As a teacher I used and consider in my daily life of teaching a mixed method
of Perenialism and Progressivism. I used to become a perenialist because in Araling Panlipunan we need
to master the specific topic particularly the person,date, place and events.(Perenialism teaches focuses on
knowledge and the meaning of knowledge). Progressivism because I will allow my students to discover
their learning through differentiated activities like reporting, debate, role playing, movie analysis and
reflection paper, through this activities students expresses their ideas and opinions base on their
knowledge about the given topic.

At first I doubt to become an effective teacher because I am not an Education graduate but later in my
teaching career through seminars, trainings,assistance of my co-teachers and through my passion,
dedication and love to my chosen profession i made it. I am proudly says that I am fully invested teacher
to my students learning and behavior. To show my investment, I show up early for class, respond
quickly to their quiries, and try to give substantive feedback on students’ work. I learn my students’
names early on. I learn my students behavior so that it’s easy for me deal and to handle them.

Base on attached Daily Lesson Log in Araling Panlipunan I evaluated this a Constructivism theory.
Constructivism basically is a theory- based on observation and scientific study about how people learn. It says
that people construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world, through experiencing things and
reflecting on those experiences. When we encounter something new, we have to reconcile it with your previous
ideas and experience maybe changing what we believe, or maybe discarding the new information as relevant. In
any case, we are active creators of our own knowledge.

Going back to my Daily lesson log, for me it is a constructivisim because I allow the students to discuss the
topic through reporting.They share their ideas and experiences to their classmates and asking their classmates to
share also, During the discussions I am the facilator and after the discussing and changing their ideas that’s the
time to share my insights and additional knowledge to reconcile theier previous knowledge about the topic.
