10 TECHNOLOGY INNOVATIONS FOR EDUCATION PURPOSES

1. PROJECTOR

The projector shown above is Panasonic PT-VMZ50U Projector. It is a

WUXGA Conference Room Projector designed for the modern corporates with the
well-lit conference rooms where lots of infographics are used for presenting ideas, thus
it suitable to be a used in a classroom. There are some interesting highlights of this
projector that also benefits in a teaching and learning process. This projector can
produce vivid images in bright environments, high brightness from a compact body and
a clearer view with daylight view basic that may increase students’ engagement in
learning by arousing their attention. Usually, teachers use whiteboard or blackboard in
a classroom, but with projectors, teachers can make the teaching process fun by using
videos, audios, pictures, and slides.
2. SMART BOARD

The pictures above are called as SMART Board. It is an interactive whiteboard

that allows the user to project an image and ‘interact’ with it. The ‘interact’ in this
context is the user can write on it or move it around. The SMART Board is connected
to a computer and works with a projector. The projector exhibit what is open on the
computer on the SMART Board. The user can also use mouse or keyboard, but much
more recommended to use the touch screen function and the special pens that are
included. The third picture is the example of SMART Board® MX series. Teachers may
find SMART Board helpful as they can switch easily from giving a lesson to writing on
a board to browsing the internet. This process also may seem enjoyable to the students
as students nowadays grew up in an advanced world that is full of technologies.
3. 3D PRINTERS

3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional

solid objects from a digital file. 3D printing seems like a bit unsuitable for primary and
secondary students, contrast to university students, 3D printers may benefit them a lot.
For example, Graphic Design students can print out 3D versions of their artwork and
Architecture students can print out 3D versions of their building model. 3D printing
also sounds exciting as it implements the concept of bringing the world of theory to the
physical world where students can explore much more in new ways. It also kind of
provides real-world solutions to a certain extent that can ready the students to face the
world.
4. SMART Desk

SMART Desk is the innovation of computer furniture and desks or tables that
can be used in an office or conference room. It also suits a classroom. Since 1996,
SMART Desk has combined various design services with high quality technology
furniture for education institutions, corporations, healthcare, government, and much
more. In 2020, it is safe to say that SMART Desk is a believable source which is
necessary for today’s classroom environment. SMART Desk produce from a science-
fiction to a real situation in a classroom. The advanced multi-touch contributes to the
multi-user of classroom desks. Using multi-touch desks in the classroom, the students
will be able to work together in many ways to solve and answer questions and problems
using innovative solutions.
5. TABLETS

In 21st century learning nowadays, most education institution such as schools,

universities and others have been replacing textbooks or hard-copy study materials with
tablets. It is convenience for the students as it is light compared to the books. It also
allows students to edit the reading materials or add on side notes. The cost itself is
affordable as the students can access to many subjects in one tablet rather than a book
of one certain subject. The camera function on tablets can be used by the students on
field trip days to capture pictures as memories meanwhile the voice recording function
can be used for recording lectures to be reviewed later on. All these contributes to
students’ computer skills as the future will be much more advanced than it is already
now. Teachers also benefit from the paperless homework as it is only one touch away.
6. VIRTUAL REALITY

Virtual reality (VR) is a simulation based on computer-created with a whole new

environment that need to be used with a headset. The headsets are invented to be used
with smartphones device. The smartphone device must be put into the headset which is
in front of the user’s eyes to be functioned as the screen. Instead of the real-world sight,
the headset will show a created virtual reality in front of the user. This technology let
the user to experience as if they are moving around and interacting with the virtual
environment. Students can experience high-quality learning visualizations wearing VR
headsets that will create a positive outcome. VR helps students comprehend concepts,
theories, and subjects as the digestion of complex information is simplified.
7. AUGMENTED REALITY

Augmented reality (AR) combines technology and visual that is like a QR code to
show a computer-generated implementation over the top of the existing reality. It is
usually be done through the camera of smartphones, tablets or computers which permit
the users to link with digital components that are mixed into the real world. AR has an
appealing option for teachers to modernize their teaching. Students also can grasp the
concept in a memorable way. For example, a plain drawing of a village can be changed
through the use of AR, creating a three-dimensional image that could display people in
villages moves around and doing activities. I also used AR back when I was a diploma
student, which is HP Reveal application. It has advanced image recognition in blending
the real-world with plentiful interactive content, such as videos and animations called
‘Auras’.
8. TELEVISION

Television is one of my recommended technology to be used in a classroom.

Television is one of the technologies that most people are familiar with as it is one of
the early technology inventions. The coverage of various types of events such as news,
entertainment, and information whether live or recorded from around the world
impresses me. Nowadays, there are lots of educational shows for each level of students,
from primary to secondary and university students. There are also some channels
exclusively aiming for education. In a classroom, teacher can turn on any channel that
suits the students. As there is only one technology functioning as the teaching and
learning process takes place, all students will be able to pay attention as there is no other
distraction.
9. COMPUTERS/LAPTOPS

Computers are widely used among schools. There is even school computer lab
at primary and secondary schools. The creativity and thinking skills of students improve
as the use of IT technology utilized well. In just a single click by the students, tons of
instant information on any topic pop out. On another side, laptops are commonly used
by the university students as it offers flexibility and freedom the students want to finish
their assignments anytime and anywhere. Laptop is convenient as it can be carried
around together with the user easily.
10. AUDIO ENHANCEMENTS (SPEAKERS/MICROPHONES)

Audio enhancements technologies are more suitable to be used in a large

lecture hall or an auditorium. The transmission of the speaker’s voice can be delivered
to every corner in the hall or auditorium so that students can hear and able to occupy
the information well. The speaker also benefits from it as he or she does not have to use
their voice loudly.
