At present, when standart setting activities are nearing completion, United States
is shifting its focus on the field of human rights to the practical implementation of
established norms(rules). The high commissioner for human rights, who
coordinates all activities of the United Nations system in the field of human rights,
works with governments to ensure that they observe human rights more
effectively, ensuring that violations are prevented and cases of abuse are
investigated. The United Nations commission on human rights, an
intergovernmental body, conduct public meetings on the issue of states’
observance for human rights. It appoints independent experts- special
rapporteurs- to report on specific human rights violations or to study the human
rights situation in selected countries.

public to report human rights violations.
United Nations human rights bodies are involved in early warning and conflict
prevention efforts, as well as in efforts to eliminate root causes of conflicts. A
number of United Nations peacekeeping missions have a human rights
component. Overall, United Nations activities in the field of human rights are
currently being implemented on the ground in 27 countries and territories.
