What careers do you think studying photography can lead to?


There are a lot of jobs you can do after studying photography, here are some:
- Photojournalism
- Commercial/product photography
- Automotive photography- dealership photographer, car manufacturer photographer,
automotive event photographer (formula drift etc...)
- Director of photographer in films
- Camera operator
- Director
- Cinematography
- Videographer- music videos
- Crime scene photographer
- Medical illustrator
- Animator
- Web designer
- Insurance claims photographer
- Photography teacher/educator
- Photo editor
- Funeral photographer
- Food photographer
- Influencer photographer- Instagram

What are some ways that photographers make money?


- Shooting for events: funerals, weddings, gigs etc…
- Selling lightroom pre-sets online
- Editing photos for people
- Holding classes/courses for educational purposes
- Selling images to the stock library
- Starting a YouTube or blog
- Creative marketing
- Selling fine art prints/canvas
- How to guides
- Working as an assistant
- Lectures at universities and schools
- Product/ marketing shots
What options are there after A-levels?
- Art and design foundation course
- University
- University to study photography
- Apprenticeship/ assistant
- Straight into the field/work
- Setting up your own business

Pros
- You get time to collect work experience
- You are not thrown straight into the deep end, it is a more gradual process
- Become an expert at the subject your taken
- You will gain high level transferable skills
Cons
- It is expensive and will most likely leave you in debt
- You do not get much contact time
- You are committing to 3 years of education
- Must meet requirements

Apprenticeship
Pros
- You get lots of experience
- You are earning while learning
- Will increase your confidence
- You get paid holiday
- Secure income
- Access to higher apprenticeships
Cons
- More responsibility and pressure compared to university
- Competition is high
- Apprentice wage is not great, £4.15 an hour

Setting up your own business


Pros
- You get to make all the decisions and choose what you do. You are your
own boss. There aren’t as many pros I can think of for this one but I think
having control over your own business and career in such a massive way
is a big pro.
- You get to choose who you employ if you decide to have employers

Cons
- You will not get an immediate income
- Can be very time consuming
- Is a lot of pressure as you make the decisions
- You might not have the right experience for starting it up
- Harder and longer hours
